The Westinghouse WHI744BA is a 70 cm, four-zone induction cooktop with touch controls, a 7.4 kW connected load and a 560 × 490 mm bench cut-out. It has useful pause, keep-warm and timer functions, but it is listed as discontinued by CHOICE. The available public review information does not disclose its test scores, so this is a specifications-led review—not a report of firsthand testing.
What is the Westinghouse WHI744BA?
The WHI744BA is a black ceramic-glass induction cooktop with four cooking zones and front touch controls. Westinghouse lists pause, keep-warm and timer functions, along with child lock, key lock, safety cut-off, residual-heat warnings and sound off. The model’s product number is PNC 949 163 284.
These features make it a practical fit for someone who wants a flush glass surface and induction controls rather than gas burners or radiant electric elements. Whether it is a good choice depends especially on the cut-out, the electrical installation and whether you can still obtain the cooktop and service support.

#1 Best Overall
- PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Will the WHI744BA fit your bench?
The listed cooktop dimensions are 700 × 520 × 46 mm, while the required bench cut-out is 560 × 490 mm. The overall width is not the same as the opening needed beneath the glass: measure the existing opening itself and compare it with the cut-out dimensions.
Before buying or arranging a replacement, check the manual for installation clearances and confirm that the benchtop and cabinetry suit the appliance. A similar-width cooktop is not necessarily a drop-in replacement if its cut-out or clearance requirements differ.

This dependable performance sets it apart from others.
- LARGE COOKING AREA - Features an expanded magnetic coil design that optimizes the winding structure to enhance the transfer of electromagnetic energy directly to the cookware, significantly improving heating efficiency and ensuring more even heat distribution across the bottom of the cookware.

Electrical requirements and installation
Westinghouse lists a 7.4 kW connected load and a hardwired connection. The manual specifies a 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz supply. Because this is a hardwired appliance with a substantial connected load, have a qualified local professional confirm that the existing circuit and installation are suitable; do not assume that a previous cooktop’s connection is adequate.

What cookware works on it?
Induction heats cookware through a magnetic field, so pans need a magnetic base to work. Check each pan you plan to use rather than assuming that all cookware is compatible. The retailer’s WHI744BA listing also notes the magnetic-cookware requirement.

How strong is the review evidence?
CHOICE has a listing for the WHI744BA, names appliance-testing contributor Fiona Mair on the page and states that the test year was 2023 or earlier. Its expert rating, cooking scores, pros and cons are available only to members, so the public listing does not establish how well this model performed or how it compares with alternatives.
Accordingly, the specifications and feature list can be assessed, but a performance verdict based on independent test results cannot. No firsthand product testing is represented here. Westinghouse’s product page also includes a speed comparison with gas and electric cooking without providing an underlying method or study on that page, so it should not be treated as an independently verified result.

- 【CHECK YOUR PAN FIRST — MAGNET TEST + FLAT BASE 4 –10 IN】Works only with magnetic, flat-bottom cookware: cast iron, magnetic 430 stainless steel, or enameled iron. Fridge-magnet test on the flat bottom: clings = works; slides = no heat. Not for aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, or non-magnetic 304 stainless steel. Measure the flat magnetic base, not the rim: 4 –10 in (10–26 cm). Round-bottom/warped pans or small magnetic dots won’t work. “E0” = pan mismatch, not a defect.
- 【Portable & Versatile Induction Cooktop】 This lightweight induction burner is designed for effortless portability and compact storage, easily fitting into small kitchens, dorms, RVs, apartments, offices, patios, or camping trips. Simply plug it into any standard 110V/120V outlet and enjoy 1800W of powerful, efficient cooking wherever you go. This safe, flameless induction burner delivers professional results without compromising on space—ideal for anyone seeking a versatile, space-saving solution.
- 【Precise Power & Temperature Control】 This portable induction cooktop features 10 power levels (180W to 1800W) and 10 temperature settings (120°F to 460°F), giving you complete control for any cooking style. Whether you need a gentle simmer for sauces, a steady boil for pasta, or high heat for searing steaks and stir-fry, simply adjust the settings to match your recipe. Including Rapid Boil and Keep Warm modes. A 3-hour timer adds flexibility for effortless meal preparation.
- 【ETL Certified & Energy Efficient】 This induction hot plate is ETL certified to meet North American electrical standards, ensuring safe and reliable operation with any standard 110V/120V outlet. With 83% energy efficiency, it outperforms traditional gas and electric cooktops by transferring heat directly to your cookware—minimizing energy loss, reducing cooking time, and saving on electricity costs.
- 【Intuitive LCD Display & Smart Touch Controls】 This induction stove features an easy-to-read LCD display and responsive touch panel for effortless control. Auto pan detection automatically powers off when no cookware is detected, while the child safety lock and overheat protection ensure worry-free cooking. The sleek ceramic glass surface is also easy to clean—just wipe with a damp cloth.
Is the WHI744BA discontinued?
CHOICE labels the model discontinued. That does not by itself establish whether any retailer still has stock or what after-sales support is available. Check current availability, warranty handling and service options with the seller or Westinghouse before committing to a purchase. Westinghouse lists a two-year domestic warranty on the product page.
Who should consider it?
The WHI744BA may suit a household replacing a 70 cm cooktop if the cut-out and electrical installation match, magnetic cookware is available, and the model can still be sourced with acceptable support. Its listed controls and cooking functions cover practical everyday needs, but the concealed CHOICE scores prevent a public, evidence-based ranking against other induction models.
If comparing it with another 70 cm induction cooktop, check the cut-out and clearances first, then compare zone layout and boost ratings, controls and timer functions, electrical load and connection, warranty, availability and independently disclosed test results. The public CHOICE listing does not expose enough score detail to rank the WHI744BA against alternatives.
