The Westinghouse WHI643BD is a four-zone, 60 cm induction cooktop with a 6.5 kW hardwired connection. It may suit a kitchen where its 560 × 490 mm cut-out, fixed zone layout and electrical requirements match the installation—but confirm all three before buying. Westinghouse lists features including BoilProtect, Hob2Hood and PowerBoost; the detailed independent test scores visible to CHOICE members are not available on its public review page.
What the Westinghouse WHI643BD offers
Westinghouse describes the WHI643BD as a black ceramic-glass induction cooktop with touch controls and four fixed cooking zones. Its listed features include BoilProtect, Hob2Hood, PowerBoost, Pause, a timer, residual-heat indication and a child safety device. The manufacturer lists a two-year domestic warranty. BoilProtect is intended to detect rising bubbles in water and reduce the heat to a low simmer. Westinghouse describes its use with stainless-steel and enamelled pots filled with water. This is a manufacturer feature description, not evidence of independently tested results.

The “60 cm” label is only a category shorthand. Westinghouse lists the cooktop itself as 590 mm wide, 520 mm deep and 51 mm high, with a required cut-out of 560 × 490 mm. Measure the existing opening rather than relying on the nominal width; also check clearances and other installation requirements in the manual or dimension sheet before purchase.

Do your pans suit the four-zone layout?
The zones have different diameters and power ratings, so compare the layout with the pans you use most often. Westinghouse lists these specifications:

CHOICE lists minimum usable pan diameters of 12.5 cm for one zone, 15 cm for two zones and 18.5 cm for one zone. Its public page does not identify which zone corresponds to each minimum, so do not assume those figures map one-to-one to the zone diameters above. Check whether your usual cookware works with the fixed layout and the maker’s guidance. CHOICE’s [WHI643BD review page] lists the pan minima alongside model specifications.
What electrical installation does it need?
Westinghouse lists a 6.5 kW connected load and a hardwired connection. That does not make the cooktop a plug-in replacement, nor does it establish that an existing kitchen circuit is suitable. Before purchase, ask a qualified electrician to check circuit capacity, wiring and the applicable local requirements. Westinghouse’s [fact sheet] provides supporting specification information.

What do independent reviews establish?
CHOICE has a model-specific review page and labels the WHI643BD a “Discontinued model.” Its public listing shows a price of A$1,299, but that is a displayed review-page price, not a verified current offer. The same page says “Year tested” 2024 onwards; detailed expert ratings and test results are member-only and are not visible in the public material. The rating and results therefore cannot be assessed here. Check current retailer stock and pricing directly before deciding.
Westinghouse’s product page remains live, which is a different status from CHOICE’s discontinued label. A live manufacturer page does not confirm that the model is currently sold in your area. Confirm availability and the seller’s warranty terms with the retailer; Westinghouse lists a two-year domestic warranty.

ProductReview.com.au’s dynamic listing showed a 3.7 rating and one owner report of intermittent beeping and shutdown. That is an individual account, not a verified defect rate or established explanation of the cause. The available material does not establish how frequently such problems occur.
What to check before buying
- Measure the cabinet opening and compare it with the specified 560 × 490 mm cut-out; verify clearances and installation details in the model documentation.
- Compare the four zone diameters and listed pan minima with your cookware and normal cooking layout.
- Have a qualified electrician confirm the installation can accommodate the 6.5 kW hardwired appliance.
- Ask retailers whether they have stock and what price and warranty terms apply now; do not treat CHOICE’s displayed A$1,299 as a current quote.
- Use the available public information as a specification check, not as a substitute for CHOICE’s members-only performance scores.
For comparison with another cooktop, check its cut-out, connection, zone placement and sizes, cookware limits, controls, warranty and available test evidence against the same criteria. CHOICE search material notes that the similar WHI645BD includes a bridge zone and touch-slide controls; that is a prompt to compare full model specifications, not enough to establish which model is better.
