The Westinghouse WHC642BC is a 60cm, four-zone ceramic cooktop—not an induction model—with knob controls and a specified 560 × 490 mm bench cutout. Westinghouse’s published specifications describe its layout, electrical requirements and safety indicators, but do not establish how it performs in everyday cooking or how well it holds up over time.
What is the Westinghouse WHC642BC?
Westinghouse identifies the WHC642BC as a built-in ceramic cooktop with a black ceramic-glass surface and controls on the right side. It has four cooking zones. This is a conventional radiant ceramic cooktop, not an induction cooktop; cookware compatibility and heating behavior therefore should not be assumed to match induction.
The manufacturer’s fact sheet lists these zone ratings:

Will it fit the existing bench cutout?
The fact sheet gives the cooktop’s overall dimensions as 590 mm wide, 520 mm deep and 46 mm high. The required cutout is 560 mm wide by 490 mm deep. Check the actual bench opening and installation clearances against the installation documentation before buying; the overall dimensions are not the same as the cutout dimensions. Westinghouse product documentation.
What electrical connection does it require?
Westinghouse lists a 6.5 kW connected load and a hardwired connection. This is not a plug-in appliance according to the fact sheet. Have an appropriately qualified installer confirm that the site wiring and circuit are suitable for the appliance and comply with local requirements before installation. The published connected-load figure alone does not establish whether a particular home’s electrical supply is adequate.

- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Which safety and cleaning features are listed?
The fact sheet lists residual-heat warning lamps and a hot-surface indicator. Westinghouse’s New Zealand page also names an auto thermal cutout safety switch and describes the ceramic surface as easy to clean. These statements identify advertised features; they do not demonstrate how effective the protections or cleaning experience are in use.
What warranty does Westinghouse list?
The manufacturer fact sheet states a two-year domestic warranty. Warranty coverage, exclusions and eligibility can depend on the region and current terms, so check the applicable local warranty documentation rather than treating the duration alone as a complete account of coverage. Is the WHC642BC any good?
The published specifications establish what kind of cooktop it is and provide useful checks for fit, zone layout and electrical planning. They do not establish how quickly it boils water, how evenly it heats, whether its surface cleans easily in practice, or how durable it is. Those judgments require independent testing or a well-sourced synthesis of owner experiences.
Westinghouse’s New Zealand product page displays a 4.6 rating from 433 reviews. That is the rating shown on that regional page, not a verified current Australian rating; the available information does not support a reliable summary of specific owner praise or complaints.
