Ajay Allen opened Western Kentucky’s 2026 season with 102 rushing yards and two touchdowns, but his production has dropped since. Through five listed games, the redshirt senior has 202 yards on 59 carries (3.4 yards per carry); his four games after the opener combined for 100 rushing yards. The statistics show the decline, but the available reporting does not establish its cause.
Ajay Allen’s 2026 rushing stats show a sharp change after the opener
Allen’s season average is 3.4 yards per carry through five listed games, according to Sports-Reference.com’s 2026 season table. That is a season-to-date figure, not his average over only the last four games.
| Period or game | Carries | Rushing yards | Yards per carry | Rushing touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nevada opener | 21 | 102 | 4.9 | 2 |
| Next four games combined | 38 | 100 | 2.6 | not stated (Sports-Reference.com season table does not provide this four-game subtotal) |
| Five-game season total | 59 | 202 | 3.4 | 2 |
The opener figures are reported by RotoWire. The five-game totals come from Sports-Reference.com; the four-game remainder is calculated by subtracting the opener from those totals. The season table lists two rushing touchdowns overall, both scored in the opener.

A CFBStats situational-statistics snapshot through September 26, 2026, showed Allen with 185 yards on 50 carries, or 3.70 yards per attempt, through four games. His October 1 game against New Mexico State added nine carries for 17 yards, as listed by RotoWire. Including that game, the season total became 202 yards on 59 carries, or 3.4 per carry in the Sports-Reference table.

That latest outing was a low-yield rushing game, but it was not the whole story: Allen also caught four passes for 24 yards against New Mexico State. Across the five-game season table, he has 11 receptions for 78 yards and one receiving touchdown, in addition to his two rushing scores.
What the situational numbers do—and do not—show
CFBStats’ September 26 snapshot also records 13 carries for 28 yards in the third quarter, a 2.15-yard average. This is a split for one quarter of play through four games, not a full-season or last-four-games rushing average. It illustrates that his output varied by game situation, but it does not by itself explain the broader decline.

The cited statistics document the change in production; they do not identify a cause. They do not establish that an injury, blocking, play calling, opponent quality, conditioning, or a change in Allen’s ability is responsible. Any such explanation would require additional direct evidence.
Allen’s Western Kentucky and college background
Western Kentucky lists Allen as a redshirt senior running back from Monroe, Louisiana, wearing number 3. The school’s 2026 roster biography lists his previous schools as Tulsa, FIU, Miami, and Nebraska, and identifies him as a 2026 preseason second-team Conference USA selection by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

The same WKU biography reports that at Tulsa in 2025 he rushed for 497 yards on 97 attempts (5.1 yards per carry) and five touchdowns, and caught 10 passes for 98 yards. That provides a prior-season point of comparison, but it does not explain why his 2026 rushing average is lower.
