Yes—Wells Fargo introduced a phone-based alternative to its physical business-banking security token in 2017. The feature was called CEO Mobile Token and generated an RSA SecurID code for Treasury Management customers using the Commercial Electronic Office (CEO) portal or CEO Mobile service. The service has since been rebranded: Wells Fargo’s current business app listings say CEO Mobile is now Wells Fargo Vantage and advertise RSA mobile-token access from the app’s sign-on screen.
What Wells Fargo announced in 2017
On August 17, 2017, Wells Fargo announced CEO Mobile Token for Treasury Management customers. Instead of carrying a separate hardware token, an eligible customer could use an iPhone or Android smartphone to generate a security code and then complete transactions through the CEO portal or CEO Mobile service.
The launch used RSA SecurID technology and offered a choice between a mobile token and a physical token. Wells Fargo said the token could be opened from the CEO Mobile app in one click, without first logging in to the app. Those details describe the 2017 launch and should not be treated as current device or setup requirements.
“With the CEO Mobile Token, customers have a secure, convenient way to provide secondary authentication anytime they need to complete transactions.” — Secil Watson, head of Digital Solutions for Business at Wells Fargo, quoted in the 2017 Wells Fargo announcement.

The same announcement said that “about half of our customers” needed a security token for certain services. That was a 2017 company statement, not a current adoption statistic.
What the service is called now
Current US Apple App Store and Google Play listings identify the business app as Wells Fargo Vantage and state that “CEO Mobile® is now Wells Fargo Vantage®.” The listings advertise access to an RSA mobile token from the app’s sign-on screen, along with features such as account access, check deposits, transfers, and selected deposit and wire tasks for eligible clients.

Is Vantage the app for every Wells Fargo account?
No. Vantage is presented for Wells Fargo Vantage clients and eligible Treasury Management users. Wells Fargo’s store listings direct people with personal and small-business accounts to the separate Wells Fargo Mobile app. Whether a particular Vantage client sees the token or transaction functions depends on the client’s entitlements and an eligible device.

Can your phone replace a physical Wells Fargo business token?
For an eligible Treasury Management user, the mobile token is intended to provide the same type of secondary-authentication code without carrying the hardware token. It does not mean every Wells Fargo business customer can switch automatically: access is controlled by the organization’s Wells Fargo services, user entitlements, enrollment status, and device eligibility.
| Option | What is established | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile token in Vantage | Generates an RSA mobile-token code from the app’s sign-on screen for eligible clients. | Current device support and enrollment steps are not specified in the available listing beyond eligibility and supported-device requirements. |
| Physical token | Wells Fargo offered a physical-token choice alongside the mobile option in 2017. | No current compatible model or current replacement policy is established here. |
What is known about setup—and what is not
A Wells Fargo business-continuity document published in 2020 said users needed their physical RSA SecureID token to set up CEO Mobile Token. It described the installed mobile token as an alternative if the physical token was unavailable afterward.

That guidance predates the Vantage name and does not confirm today’s enrollment workflow, whether the same physical-token requirement still applies, or which hardware models—if any—are currently compatible. Do not buy a generic RSA token based on the older document. If you are enrolling, replacing a device, or locked out, use your organization’s current Wells Fargo Vantage or Treasury Management support instructions.

Choose the mobile token when
- Your organization has enabled Vantage and RSA mobile-token access for your user.
- You regularly have your enrolled smartphone available during approvals or transactions.
- You want to avoid carrying a separate hardware token.
Keep a physical-token fallback when
- Your company’s policy requires hardware-token access.
- Your phone may be lost, damaged, replaced, out of battery, or unable to run the eligible app.
- Your administrator or Wells Fargo support has not confirmed mobile enrollment.
The available sources do not establish that one method is cryptographically stronger than the other, nor do they identify a currently purchasable physical-token model. The meaningful operational difference is where you retrieve the code and what backup access your organization has arranged.
Best Value
- OTP token that provides secure remote access with strong authentication
- Easy to use and easy to carry
- Expected battery life is approximately 7 years
What to check before changing phones
- Confirm with your company’s Treasury Management administrator that your user is entitled to Vantage and the RSA mobile token.
- Check the current Wells Fargo Vantage listing and Wells Fargo’s support instructions for your device and operating-system eligibility.
- Ask whether enrollment requires the organization’s existing physical token or another administrator-assisted step; do not rely on the 2020 continuity document as current policy.
- Arrange a recovery path before wiping, replacing, or losing the enrolled phone.
- If the token option is missing from the sign-on screen, contact current Wells Fargo Vantage or Treasury Management support rather than installing an unrelated RSA app or purchasing hardware.
The Bottom Line
CEO Mobile Token was Wells Fargo’s 2017 phone-based RSA SecurID alternative for Treasury Management customers. Today, the relevant business app is Wells Fargo Vantage, whose current US store listings advertise RSA mobile-token access for eligible clients. The exact enrollment process and any physical-token requirements must be confirmed through current Wells Fargo support because the older launch and 2020 setup guidance are not current policy documents.
