The “New EE Times” announced on October 1, 2018, was a major redesign—not just a new color scheme. EE Times said it was updating the site’s layout and technology, improving search for older articles, and adding editorial formats intended to connect engineering news with deeper analysis and industry voices.

What changed in the 2018 EE Times redesign?

Editor-in-chief Dylan McGrath described the redesign as the publication’s first major overhaul in more than five years. The announcement presented it as both a visual refresh and a broader change to the site’s technology and editorial structure. EE Times said its commitment to editorial quality remained unchanged, while it aimed to give readers a fuller view of technologies, market trends, and business issues affecting the electronics industry. • Updated interface: a new color scheme and homepage layout.
  • Responsive design: stories designed to display across PCs, smartphones, tablets, and other screen sizes.
  • Improved search: a more powerful search engine intended to help readers find older EE Times content.
  • More network links: more prominent connections to AspenCore sister publications, including EDN, EBN, EEWeb, Embedded.com, and Power Electronics.

What were the new editorial initiatives?

The announcement named three initiatives that extended the site beyond its standard news and feature coverage:

Special Projects

Special Projects brought together clusters of stories developed across the AspenCore network to examine complex subjects with wider industry impact.

EE Times On Air

EE Times On Air was described as a downloadable radio or audio show offering deep dives with subject-matter experts.

Frontline Dispatch

Frontline Dispatch was a space for design-engineering and supply-chain professionals to share perspectives and chronicle a technology’s lifecycle.

Can you read EE Times on a phone or tablet?

Yes. EE Times said the redesign used responsive design so stories could render across desktop computers, smartphones, tablets, and other screen sizes. The 2018 announcement does not specify particular device models, operating-system versions, or a dedicated app requirement.

How can you find older EE Times articles?

The redesigned site included an upgraded search engine intended to make legacy content easier to find. The announcement does not provide search syntax, archive date limits, or a separate archive-navigation path, so use the site’s search feature and refine queries with distinctive words from an article’s title or subject.

How did the redesign build on earlier EE Times changes?

EE Times had previously framed its website as a community as well as a publication. In a 2013 announcement, it described a community site linked to events such as Design West and DesignCon, with online discussion keeping event conversations active throughout the year. A related help article focused on making it easier to join discussions and post comments. 2013 EE Times redesign announcement and 2013 EE Times help article

An earlier 2010 redesign guide divided the site into four broad areas: News & Analysis for breaking news and interpretation, Design for technical resources, Products for part search and product information, and EE Life for projects and engineering life. Those categories show a longer-running effort to serve both technical-information needs and engineers’ professional community. 2010 EE Times redesign guide

The 2018 announcement described EE Times as having served electronic engineers for more than four decades. That is the publication’s own characterization; the announcement did not provide independently audited audience, traffic, or market-share figures.
