A success response from a social publishing tool means the request was accepted. It does not, by itself, mean each platform published each post, or that the image attached to that post actually rendered on the live page. If you scheduled a week of image posts and cannot show a receipt for each one, the gap is in your evidence first. Close it by checking each destination separately against the live platform, and do not retry anything until you have done that.
Why a “sent” or “processed” status is not a delivery receipt
Publishing tools usually report status at more than one level. A post-level state can describe the whole job, while each destination account or platform can have its own outcome. Vendor documentation for at least one publishing API says that a processed state can mean the post was handed to the publishing pipeline, not that every platform accepted it. The same kind of documentation advises inspecting per-platform results, and for threads or multi-part posts, inspecting every item in the chain.
Timing matters too. Some systems publish asynchronously, so the first response only confirms that work started. One publishing API guide tells integrators to poll the post status until it completes, and documents profile-level outcomes alongside the overall stage. If your team read a “scheduled” or “queued” label as “live,” the week’s posts may simply not have finished their journey.

An image post can fail at any stage, and each stage proves something different. Keep them separate in your records.

The step most often skipped is the last one. A destination-level “published” status with a permalink is strong evidence. A top-level “completed” label on the whole job is weaker, because it can hide one failed destination among several successful ones.
How to verify each post, step by step
- Build a per-post inventory. In a spreadsheet, list every post with its intended account or platform, the image filename and file size, the scheduled time with its time zone, the tool used, and the job or post identifier your tool returned.
- Pull the per-destination records. In your publishing tool’s post log, API response, or job history, open each post and expand every destination. If the tool only shows a top-level status, note that as a gap for that post; do not treat it as a confirmation.
- Check the media status for each attachment. Look for a media-processing state and any error text tied to the file. An image can be accepted by the tool and still be rejected or dropped by the platform, so a clean media status is necessary but not sufficient.
- Record the platform post ID or permalink. A permalink is the most direct receipt. If the tool does not return one, note the platform’s post identifier if present. Some APIs do not return the public URL of a published post, so you may need to find it on the platform itself.
- Open the live post for every destination without a permalink. Search the account’s own post history by date, and confirm the text, the time, and that the image renders. Do not rely on a preview in your tool.
- Check every segment of multi-part posts. For threads, carousels, or posts with follow-up replies, verify each item. A parent post that published while a later segment failed is a partial result.
- Classify each result. Mark it delivered (live post confirmed, image visible), failed (explicit error, no live post), partial (some destinations or segments live), or uncertain (no clear receipt and no live post found yet).
What each delivery record should contain

Checking the image itself
A post with a missing or broken image can look like a successful publish. Before you blame the pipeline, check the image against the constraints of the platform where it was supposed to appear.

- Confirm the file type and size against the target platform’s current rules, not a generic limit. Upload limits documented for one vendor’s own endpoint apply only to that endpoint.
- Check the image count per post. A post that requested four images may have published with one if the platform or tool trimmed the set.
- Look at the live post on a phone and on a desktop browser. Some platforms show a placeholder or a “media unavailable” note while the text publishes normally.
- Compare the image in the live post to the file you approved, using the filename or a checksum where your tool keeps one.
Deciding what to do before you retry
Retrying an uncertain result can create duplicate posts. Some providers may accept a request but return an ambiguous failure, which means the platform may already have the post. Use the outcome to choose the action.
- Live post found, image visible: mark delivered and record the permalink. Do not retry that destination.
- Live post found, image missing or broken: the destination is partial. Repair the media on the platform if it supports editing, or delete and repost deliberately, noting that the original post already exists.
- Explicit error with no live post: fix the cause the error names, such as a file-type or size problem, then retry only that destination.
- No receipt and no live post found: treat it as uncertain. Wait for the tool’s status to settle, search the account again, and only then retry the destinations you have confirmed missing.
Per-destination retry is the important rule. Re-running the whole week’s batch will duplicate every platform that already succeeded.

Reconciling a week that has already shipped
If the posts are already live, reconciliation is mostly manual. Work through the inventory one day at a time, and for each scheduled post find its live counterpart on each account. Where you find a counterpart, copy its permalink and timestamp into your records. Where you find nothing, check whether the post was scheduled for a time that has not yet passed in the platform’s time zone, or whether it was never accepted.
Record what you cannot prove. If your tool did not keep per-destination history, or the platform no longer shows a post, write that down rather than estimating. A short, honest list of confirmed, failed, and unverifiable posts is more useful to your team than a claim that the whole week went out.

When you compare publishing tools, these are the practical criteria that determine whether you can prove delivery later. They are workflow requirements, not a ranking of vendors.

- Media-processing status with specific, file-level errors.
- Platform post IDs or permalinks returned for each destination.
- Retained attempt and delivery history that you can export.
- A way to record that you verified a result externally, so the tool’s status and your evidence can be reconciled.
- Retries that skip destinations already confirmed as published.
What this incident can and cannot establish
This article describes how to verify image posts in general. It cannot tell you whether the images from your week arrived. That answer depends on your own logs, your tool’s per-destination history, and the live accounts themselves. Vendor documentation describes how these systems are designed to report status, but those descriptions do not confirm what happened to any particular post, and specific field names and guarantees vary between products and can change.
