The WD Blue SN570 1TB (WDS100T3B0C) is a mainstream PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD that can be a sensible choice for everyday storage if your computer supports M.2 2280 NVMe drives and its current price is competitive. Western Digital rates it for up to 3,500 MB/s reads and 3,000 MB/s writes, but those are peak test results, not promises of sustained write speed. Tom’s Hardware’s 2021 review specifically flagged a small SLC cache and weaker sustained writes, making this a less compelling fit for frequent, very large file transfers.
WD Blue SN570 1TB specifications
The figures below apply to the 1TB WDS100T3B0C model unless stated otherwise. Western Digital’s January 2022 product brief reports sequential figures from CrystalDiskMark 8.0.1 testing and cautions that results vary with the host, usage, and capacity. Its test system included an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570, Ryzen 9 3950X, 32 GB DDR4-3200, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 20H1, Microsoft StorNVMe, and a secondary-drive setup.

Western Digital’s launch announcement said the SN570 was up to five times faster than its best SATA SSDs, based on the company’s own testing. That is a vendor comparison from October 2021, not an independent comparison against today’s drives.
How fast is the SN570 in practice?
Everyday reads and shorter transfers
The vendor-rated sequential ceiling of 3,500 MB/s read places the 1TB SN570 in the expected range for a PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe SSD. The product brief’s results come from a specified benchmark setup, so your real-world speeds will depend on the computer, workload, drive state, and software. A peak sequential number is useful for identifying the interface class, but it does not predict every application or transfer.

Large, sustained writes
Tom’s Hardware’s December 7, 2021 review described the SLC cache as small and sustained write speed as a weakness. This is that publication’s review finding, not a guarantee that every transfer will slow by the same amount. It does mean the 3,000 MB/s vendor-rated write maximum should not be treated as the speed to expect throughout a prolonged write after cache behavior becomes relevant.
For an operating-system drive, applications, games, and ordinary file handling, this limitation may matter less than it would for repeated large media exports or moving very large datasets. If those sustained-write workloads are central, compare current alternatives using independent testing that covers long writes, not only short peak benchmarks.

What independent reviews found
Tom’s Hardware
Sean Webster’s December 2021 review identifies the 1TB drive as PCIe 3.0 x4/NVMe 1.4, M.2 2280, TLC, and DRAM-less. It describes the SN570 as faster than its predecessor, while noting weaker performance in some sustained workloads. Its favorable value language was tied to bargain pricing at the time and should not be read as a current price verdict. The review also reports that the drive lacks hardware AES-256 encryption.

Will Taillac’s May 2022 review tested a single-sided 1TB sample as a boot drive in an ASUS PRIME X570-P system with a Ryzen 9 5900X. ServeTheHome assigned that review an overall score of 8.6; that is the publication’s own review score, not a standardized benchmark or a direct measure of whether the drive is right for your system.

Endurance, warranty and exact model numbers
Western Digital’s product brief specifies 600 TBW for the 1TB WDS100T3B0C. TBW means terabytes written: it is an endurance rating, not a prediction that the drive will fail as soon as that amount is reached. The manufacturer’s support results also list a 1TB suffix variant, WDS100T3B0B, at 400 TBW. Check the drive label or listing’s full model number before applying the 600 TBW figure.
Western Digital’s October 2021 launch page describes a five-year limited warranty or the maximum endurance limit, whichever comes first. Warranty terms can differ by region and may change; consult Western Digital’s current warranty support information for the exact product and location before making a claim.

Will the SN570 work in your computer or enclosure?
The drive is M.2 2280, PCIe Gen3 x4, and NVMe. “M.2” describes a physical form factor and connector family; it does not by itself confirm that a slot supports PCIe/NVMe storage. Before buying or installing, check the computer or motherboard documentation for the slot’s supported protocol, drive length, lane configuration, and any capacity or boot-drive limits.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that the slot accepts an M.2 2280 PCIe/NVMe SSD, rather than a SATA-only M.2 drive.
- Check physical clearance, including whether a motherboard heatsink or cover will fit over the drive.
- For an external case, choose an enclosure that explicitly supports M.2 NVMe/PCIe drives and 2280 length. A SATA-only M.2 enclosure is not compatible merely because the connector looks similar.
Tom’s Hardware and ServeTheHome describe their review samples as single-sided. That can help with clearance, but it does not replace checking the dimensions and restrictions of your own host or enclosure.
Is the WD Blue SN570 1TB worth buying?
There is no current value verdict in the cited reviews: their prices and market context are historical, and availability and prices change. Compare the live price of the exact suffix with newer Gen3 and Gen4 drives at the capacity you need. A faster-rated replacement is not automatically a better buy if your system is limited to Gen3, while a small price difference may make a newer model more attractive.
- It may suit you if you need a standard M.2 2280 NVMe system or secondary drive, your host supports it, and the exact unit is priced competitively.
- Compare other drives first if you frequently write very large files, require hardware AES-256 encryption, or can buy a newer drive for similar money.
- Verify before purchase if endurance is important: confirm the full model suffix and the warranty terms applicable where you live.
Software and support
