WatchHIKER is a maker project for turning a DFRobot UNIHIKER M10 touchscreen computer into a handheld, watch-style device—not a ready-made commercial smartwatch. The build combines a custom 3D-printed enclosure, software, and optional sensor hardware. Pradeep’s Hackster.io project page estimates about three hours, but that is the page’s estimate, not a guaranteed build time.
What WatchHIKER is—and what it is not
WatchHIKER centers on the UNIHIKER M10, a touchscreen single-board computer. The project wraps it in a custom enclosure to create a handheld, wristwatch-style device and adds Python interfaces for various demonstrations. The project is best understood as a customizable maker build: it is not a finished consumer smartwatch, and the examples are not independently validated products.
Pradeep published the instructions on Hackster.io on January 11, 2025, where the project is labeled intermediate and its estimated duration is three hours. DFRobot’s Maker Community posted a near-identical entry on January 12, 2025. The duration is a publisher estimate, not a measured guarantee. Read the Hackster.io project tutorial or see the DFRobot Maker Community entry.

The ESP32 boards and sensor are associated with particular examples rather than every possible WatchHIKER configuration. Follow the tutorial’s specified board variants and wiring/code requirements instead of assuming arbitrary substitutes will work.
How the build comes together
- Make or obtain the enclosure. Use the project’s linked 3D print files or create the case, ensuring the UNIHIKER screen remains accessible. The project entry links to the print resources; their current contents are not independently confirmed here.
- Fit the hardware and power components. Place the UNIHIKER in the case, connect the battery to a charger module, and position the battery in the enclosure. Select compatible power parts; the project description does not provide a universal battery-and-charger specification.
- Copy the software. The instructions describe using UNIHIKER file sharing to copy the project’s Python scripts. The tutorial also links a script repository, whose current contents are not independently confirmed here.
- Add only the modules needed for the feature you want. For example, the heart-rate demonstration calls for the MAX30100 unit and Beetle ESP32 C3; the presence-notification example describes the Beetle ESP32 C6 and a 60 GHz human-detection sensor.
For exact enclosure files, wiring and scripts, use the project instructions rather than treating this overview as a complete wiring diagram or a standardized bill of materials.

What the example features demonstrate
Heart-rate and SpO2 display
In the author-described example, a Beetle ESP32 C3 reads the MAX30100 over I2C and prints values to serial; a UNIHIKER script reads and plots them. This is a demonstration interface, not evidence of medical accuracy or clinical measurement.
