WatchGuard’s Firebox T15 is a discontinued firewall with an end-of-life date of March 1, 2027. WatchGuard names the Firebox T115-W as its migration path, so the T15 is best considered as an existing-appliance or short-term migration question—not a sensible choice for a new long-term deployment. Its headline 400 Mbps figure is raw firewall throughput; WatchGuard lists much lower results for traffic receiving full security inspection.

Is the Firebox T15 still supported?

WatchGuard’s end-of-life policy gives the Firebox T15 an end-of-sale date of March 1, 2022, and an end-of-life date of March 1, 2027. The company’s August 12, 2026 reminder says support for T15 and T15-W hardware will be discontinued in March 2027 and urges customers to plan migration. Check WatchGuard’s end-of-life policy and migration reminder for the lifecycle details.

These dates describe the product lifecycle, not the status of a particular used unit, customer subscription, or deployment. Confirm hardware and service coverage with WatchGuard or an authorized reseller rather than assuming a second-hand appliance will receive support or updates through its end-of-life date.

How fast is the Firebox T15 with security enabled?

WatchGuard’s comparison page reports the following manufacturer-published performance figures for the T15/T15-W. They are specifications, not independent test results.

#1 Best Overall
Total Security Suite for WatchGuard Firebox T15 - 1 Year License - Complete Security Suite - IntelligentAV, APT Blocker, DNSWatch, EDR Core, Cloud Visibility (WGT15351)
  • Total Security Suite for Watchguard Firebox T15 - 1 Year License (WGT15351)
  • Includes everything in Basic plus advanced tools: IntelligentAV (AI antivirus), APT Blocker (cloud sandboxing), DNSWatch (DNS filtering), and EDR Core telemetry.
  • Deeper visibility and correlation in WatchGuard Cloud with the ability to take action from the console to speed response.
  • Layered prevention against ransomware and targeted threats by combining AI analysis, sandbox detonation, and DNS-layer controls.
  • Gold-level support benefits included for higher-priority case handling with advance replacement coverage.
Traffic or function WatchGuard figure What to keep in mind
Firewall, UDP 1518 400 Mbps Raw firewall throughput; not a promise of this speed with all security inspection enabled.
UTM full scan 52 Mbps Full-scan result listed by WatchGuard.
HTTPS full scan 11 Mbps Full-scan HTTPS result listed by WatchGuard.
VPN, UDP 1518 150 Mbps VPN result for the listed packet size and protocol.
VPN IMIX 46 Mbps VPN result for the listed IMIX traffic profile.
Antivirus 120 Mbps Manufacturer-published figure.
IPS full scan 80 Mbps Full-scan result listed by WatchGuard.

WatchGuard cautions that throughput varies with environment and configuration. Its maximum firewall throughput methodology uses multiple flows through multiple ports and 1518-byte UDP packets under RFC 2544. A real deployment’s speed depends on its traffic, configuration, and enabled services; the 400 Mbps raw-firewall figure should not be used as an estimate for inspected HTTPS or fully scanned traffic. The figures and test qualification appear in WatchGuard’s T15/T15-W comparison.

What features and capacity does the T15 offer?

WatchGuard’s comparison lists these hardware and networking capabilities for the T15/T15-W:

  • Three 1Gb interfaces.
  • 802.11b/g/n wireless on wireless models.
  • 10 VLANs.
  • Five branch-office VPN tunnels and five mobile VPN connections.
  • SD-WAN dynamic path selection.

The same comparison marks stateful firewall, VPN, application control, Gateway AntiVirus, IPS, Network Discovery, Reputation Enabled Defense, spamBlocker, WebBlocker, APT Blocker, DNSWatch, and Threat Detection and Response as supported. That list is not an account-specific license record: verify entitlements and service operation against the appliance’s actual licensing and configuration before relying on a capability.

What replaces the Firebox T15?

WatchGuard names the Firebox T115-W as the T15’s migration path in its lifecycle policy. The designation identifies WatchGuard’s recommended path; it does not establish that the T115-W is a direct performance equivalent. The available comparison data here does not provide T115-W specifications for a numerical side-by-side.

When evaluating the migration, compare the incoming appliance with your actual traffic and service needs, including:

  • Throughput with the security inspection features you plan to enable, rather than raw firewall throughput alone.
  • Interface count and speed.
  • VPN capacity.
  • Service and subscription entitlements.
  • Remaining manufacturer support.

WatchGuard’s Firebox hardware documentation is an official starting point for device documentation. For a migration decision, confirm licensing, hardware availability, and support terms directly with WatchGuard or an authorized reseller.

Who should consider a T15?

The T15 may still be relevant to an organization already operating one, or to someone assessing an existing appliance while planning a near-term transition. Its listed interfaces, VPN capacity, and security features describe what the model offers, but lifecycle timing and inspection throughput matter as much as the feature list.

For a new long-term firewall deployment, the March 2027 end-of-life date makes the T15 a poor fit. WatchGuard’s comparison page also marks the T15/T15-W as no longer sold. Do not infer current availability, condition, price, or support from a second-hand listing.

Review verdict

The Firebox T15’s specifications show a compact appliance with basic gigabit interfaces, wireless on selected models, VPN capacity, and a broad set of listed security functions. But the 400 Mbps figure is raw firewall throughput, while WatchGuard’s listed full-scan figures are 52 Mbps for UTM and 11 Mbps for HTTPS. Most importantly, the appliance reaches end of life on March 1, 2027. Treat it as legacy hardware to migrate, not as a new long-term purchase; WatchGuard identifies the T115-W as the migration path, but buyers should check that model’s current specifications and licensing before choosing it.
