Ubisoft has not announced a Watch Dogs reboot, a new numbered game, or an approved remake. But CEO Yves Guillemot has described the series as an important brand for the company’s future, and a remake of the original game as a possibility. That leaves room for a fresh start—but not grounds to treat one as confirmed.
What Ubisoft has actually said about Watch Dogs
In a report on Ubisoft’s annual meeting published October 6, 2026, GamesRadar quoted Guillemot calling Watch Dogs “still a brand that we consider to be an important brand for the future.” The same report quoted him describing the original game as potentially being remade, using the conditional phrase “before it’s potentially remade.” Those remarks do not establish that a remake has been approved, scheduled, or assigned to a development team. GamesRadar’s report is the source for the comments; they should not be read as a direct confirmation of a project.

Ubisoft’s franchise page dates Watch Dogs to 2014, identifies Watch Dogs: Legion as the series’ third entry, and says the original game attracted more than 40 million players worldwide. That is Ubisoft’s player figure, not a sales or units-sold total.

That means a sequel is unannounced in the available information—not that Ubisoft has cancelled it or ruled it out. Likewise, Ubisoft’s FY2025–26 release schedule covers only the first quarter of FY2026–27 and does not list a Watch Dogs release for that quarter; it cannot establish the contents of the company’s full future release slate. Ubisoft’s schedule is a limited window, not a franchise announcement.

What a “complete reset” could mean
A reset is an editorial possibility, not Ubisoft’s stated strategy. It could mean introducing a new protagonist and city, changing the series’ tone, or rebuilding its hacking premise as the central identity of a new game. Those are possible creative choices, not reported features or leaks.
A reset need not erase every connection to earlier games. A new entry could retain the broad idea of using connected technology as a tool while changing the cast, setting, and structure. The key question is whether a fresh start would make the series easier to understand and more distinct—not whether continuity has to be discarded wholesale.

Remake or sequel: two different routes forward

Why a reset could make sense creatively
The case for a reset is strongest if it gives Watch Dogs a sharper identity. The original’s hacking-focused premise is a recognizable foundation; a new game could build around that idea without assuming that every new player knows the earlier stories. A well-executed remake could also reintroduce the series through its first entry, while a sequel could establish its own cast and setting.

But “reset” is not automatically a solution. If a new game changes the surface while leaving its central ideas vague, it may not give players a clearer reason to return. The useful goal would be a coherent entry point and a memorable direction—not change for its own sake.

For now, the grounded answer to “Will Watch Dogs 4 be released?” is that the available reporting does not confirm a fourth game, a cancellation, or a permanent shelving. The strongest forward-looking signal is that Ubisoft’s CEO reportedly considers the brand important; the only specific project possibility mentioned in those remarks is a potential remake of the original.

Ubisoft’s broader comments about open-world action-adventure games and remakes do not add confirmation of a Watch Dogs project. In a 2024 interview, Guillemot discussed Ubisoft’s portfolio and remakes in the context of Assassin’s Creed, which is background about the company rather than evidence of a Watch Dogs plan. Ubisoft’s interview should be kept in that broader context.
