No. ASUS said the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 was not recalled. The company described the early-December 2025 shipment pause as a schedule adjustment to allow more time to improve the product. ASUS also said cards already sold could remain with their owners, according to ComputerBase’s December 8 report.
Why did the recall rumor start?
Retailers paused or delayed shipments of ASUS’s limited-edition ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 in early December 2025. That interruption led to online speculation about a recall, but ASUS publicly denied one.

ASUS public-relations representative Christian Wefers told ComputerBase, as quoted by HotHardware: “There is no product recall for the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090. We proactively adjusted the original schedule to gain additional time to improve the product and ensure an optimal customer experience. The products will arrive at our partners in the next few days. Availability may vary by region.” HotHardware reported ASUS’s statement.

Can owners keep cards they already bought?
Yes. In its December 8, 2025 report, ComputerBase said ASUS Germany denied a recall and stated that customers who had already bought a card could keep it because no problem was known. The cited reporting does not establish a required return, a safety issue, or a firmware fix.
ComputerBase added a January 12, 2026 update about changes in retail hardware. Roman “der8auer” Hartung compared an ASUS test sample with current retail cards; the report says retail units used a changed liquid-metal application on the GPU and different sealant around electrical contacts. That comparison is not the same as ASUS confirming a defect, and it does not overturn the company’s stated no-recall position.
What makes the ROG Matrix an 800W RTX 5090?
ASUS announced the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 30th Anniversary Edition on November 20, 2025. ASUS says the card can draw up to 800 watts when used with an Advanced BTF motherboard and a 12V-2×6 power supply, and claims up to a 10% performance boost in that configuration. The 800W figure is a maximum input capability for the specified setup, not a claim that every RTX 5090 or every Matrix installation will draw that amount.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The 800W mode uses two power paths: ASUS’s BTF Graphics Card High-Power Adapter (GC-HPWR) connection from a compatible motherboard, plus a direct 12V-2×6 cable to the card. See ASUS’s product page and product documentation for the product’s configuration details.
ASUS lists a quad-fan cooler, copper vapor chamber, liquid-metal thermal compound, and a three-ounce copper PCB among the card’s features. Its product materials claim up to 20% more airflow or pressure for the relevant cooling design and temperatures lowered by over 5% in the described cooling context. These are ASUS product claims, not independent test results.
What motherboard and power supply are required?
For the advertised 800W configuration, a compatible Advanced BTF motherboard and the correct 12V-2×6 power connection are both necessary. ASUS lists high-wattage units such as the ROG Thor III 1600W and 1200W as companion power supplies. A powerful PSU by itself does not enable the 800W mode: the motherboard’s GC-HPWR support and correct dual-input wiring are part of the setup.
- Motherboard: Confirm that the exact board supports the Advanced BTF/GC-HPWR connection required by the card.
- Power cabling: Follow ASUS’s documentation for both the motherboard-side high-power connection and the direct 12V-2×6 cable. Do not assume one input substitutes for the other in the 800W configuration.
- PSU: Choose a model and wattage suitable for the full system, not just the graphics card. ASUS’s cited companion examples include ROG Thor III 1600W and 1200W models.
- Physical fit: Check the card’s dimensions against the case and verify clearance for its cooler and cables before purchase; the cited product materials do not establish a universal case fit.
What should buyers check before ordering?
The card is a limited-edition 30th Anniversary model, and a shipment adjustment does not tell buyers whether it is currently in stock. ASUS’s statement explicitly left availability dependent on region. Check a local retailer or ASUS channel for current inventory, pricing, and delivery timing rather than relying on the original “next few days” estimate from December 2025.

If comparing it with another RTX 5090, focus on the actual differences that affect your build and use:
- Maximum power input and the motherboard/connector ecosystem needed to reach it.
- Cooling design and the manufacturer’s stated thermal claims.
- Factory clock specifications and overclocking headroom.
- Card dimensions, case clearance, PSU capacity, and motherboard compatibility.
- Local price, availability, warranty, and support terms.
The cited sources do not establish a stable current price or universal availability, nor do they provide a full comparative specification or warranty analysis. Confirm those details for the exact regional listing and model before buying.
