Warhorse Studios co-founder and COO Martin Klima hopes Grand Theft Auto VI can make higher prices easier for other triple-A studios to charge. Take-Two has announced a US price of $79.99 for the Standard Edition, but one game’s price does not establish a new industry-wide standard.
What Martin Klima said
In interview coverage published October 2, 2026, Klima said he hopes GTA VI “blazes the trail” for higher prices on other triple-A games. His argument is that development costs are rising, audience growth is nearing its limit, and digital sales channels already capture more of each sale. In his view, raising the unit price is one of the few remaining ways for studios to increase revenue.

“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost,” Klima said in PC Gamer’s interview coverage. He also said the GTA series does not appeal to him personally.

His hope is that the commercial performance of a high-profile release could make the decision feel less risky to other studios.

Rockstar Support also cautions that purchase and account regions can affect compatibility, and recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account.

Does this make $80 the new triple-A price?
Not yet. The announced $79.99 price confirms what GTA VI’s US Standard Edition costs; it does not show that other publishers have adopted the same price. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said that not all Take-Two games will launch at that price, with the publisher’s stated rationale emphasizing the value a particular game offers.
The sources available for this story do not establish how many triple-A games have adopted an $80 base price. Klima’s comments are a hope that GTA VI could influence later decisions, not confirmation that a wider shift has already happened. Whether other publishers follow remains an open question.

What buyers should know about the physical edition
“Physical” does not mean a disc copy in this case: Rockstar Support describes the Standard Edition box as containing a download code. Buyers choosing that format should check the region of the code against their platform account before purchasing. After redeeming it, they can buy the Ultimate upgrade digitally through the relevant platform store.
