Martin Klíma, a co-founder of Warhorse Studios, says he is bored with RPGs that cast players as “the chosen one.” His alternative is a large role-playing game about an ordinary person who never becomes a world-saving hero—a vision he connects to Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The “games for teenagers” framing is Klíma’s criticism of a storytelling convention, not a finding about RPG players’ ages.
What Klíma means by “chosen one”
In a September 25, 2026 interview with PC Gamer, Klíma said: “I still am bored and tired of all the RPGs where you are this chosen one… Nobody is making a game that would say, ‘Okay, this is a big RPG, and you are nobody, and you are not going to become a world saviour. This is a game about an ordinary random person that’s doing ordinary, random-person stuff, and at the end, he is just moderately less of a nobody.’”

His complaint is about a familiar kind of RPG plot: the player character is singled out by fate or circumstance and becomes central to saving the world. Klíma argues for a different kind of progression, in which the protagonist remains recognizably ordinary even as their circumstances change. He presents “grown-up RPG” as his description of that ambition, not as a formal genre category.
How Kingdom Come: Deliverance fits the idea
The interview points to Kingdom Come: Deliverance as an example of Klíma’s preferred approach: a historical RPG centered on an ordinary person rather than a destined saviour. That is the studio co-founder’s characterization of the game and its aims, not an independent review or a claim that every player will experience it the same way.

- Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
- Character development: Choose your equipment, improve your skills and earn new perks.
- Royal Edition includes the main game and all additional content
PC Gamer says publishers were not interested in Warhorse’s historical RPG pitch and reports that the original Kickstarter campaign drew 35,384 backers. That is a crowdfunding figure reported by the article, not a sales total or a measure of the series’ current audience. The account illustrates how this particular project found backing; it does not establish that publishers generally reject unconventional RPGs.
What the interview does—and does not—say about RPG players
The “games for teenagers” wording is a pointed framing of Klíma’s criticism of chosen-one storytelling. The interview does not provide a survey or statistic about the age of RPG players, so it cannot support a conclusion that RPGs are objectively juvenile or that their audience is mostly teenagers. The claim at issue is about the kind of protagonist and story Klíma wants to see more often.

What the interview says about Warhorse’s projects
The September 2026 interview identifies Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and mentions a new Kingdom Come adventure and a Warhorse-driven Lord of the Rings game as projects in progress at the time of publication. Those are time-bound statements from the interview; they should not be read as confirmation of current development status.
