Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klíma hopes that Grand Theft Auto 6 succeeds at its reported US price of $79.99 for the Standard Edition—and makes it easier for other studios to charge more for new games. That is his view about a possible industry precedent, not confirmation that AAA games are moving to $80 across the board.
Who wants GTA 6 to set an $80 standard?
Martin Klíma, a co-founder of Warhorse Studios, said he hopes GTA 6 will “blaze the trail” for higher game prices. PC Gamer reported his comments from an interview published October 1, 2026; VGC summarized the same interview the following day, so the two reports are not separate interviews.
Klíma said: “The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.” He also said Rockstar and Take-Two are the companies most able to risk raising prices, describing such an increase as overdue and necessary for the business to survive. These are Klíma’s opinions, not evidence that other publishers have decided to follow suit. (PC Gamer; VGC)

Why does Klíma want games to cost more?
His stated argument is that development costs are rising and that increasing the price per game could help studios. He also says studios are afraid to raise prices. The reports establish that this is his reasoning; they do not independently quantify production costs or show that a higher retail price by itself would make game development sustainable.

Klíma’s position does not mean he is personally a GTA fan. PC Gamer reports that GTA does not appeal to him, even as he hopes Rockstar succeeds and creates room for other studios to charge more.
How much is GTA 6 reported to cost?
TechRadar reported on August 11, 2026, that the US Standard Edition is priced at $79.99 and the US Ultimate Edition at $99.99. It says the Ultimate Edition includes additional content, but the report does not provide a complete itemized list here. VGC rounded the Standard Edition price to $80 and reported a $100 edition. These are dated US price reports, not a guarantee of current pricing in every region or store.

No. He hopes GTA 6’s success will make it easier for studios to raise prices, but neither his comments nor the cited coverage establishes an industry-wide move to $80. Whether publishers adopt a higher price depends on their own decisions and the response of customers; the reports do not establish how players would respond.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has framed the publisher’s pricing goal differently. TechRadar quoted him saying, “Our goal is to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them,” and reporting that he called GTA 6 an “incredible bargain.” Those are the publisher’s value claims, not an objective assessment of what the game is worth to each buyer.
