Yes—Halide Mark III 3.2 adds the iPhone 18 Pro’s adjustable-aperture support, including a fully variable aperture and a new Aperture Priority mode. The stock Camera app already offers manual aperture, shutter speed, white balance and a histogram, so Halide’s advantage is finer f-stop selection, direct ISO control in Manual mode and a more photography-focused workflow—not manual controls that Apple lacks entirely.
What Halide 3.2 adds on iPhone 18 Pro
Halide’s App Store notes for version 3.2 say the update supports the iPhone 18 Pro’s new adjustable aperture and adds a fully variable aperture option plus Aperture Priority mode. MacRumors describes two ways to use it:
Aperture Priority
You choose the f-stop, while Halide selects shutter speed and ISO for the exposure. This is useful when depth of field is the creative priority but you do not want to balance every exposure setting manually.

You control aperture, shutter speed and ISO directly. That gives you the conventional three-part exposure workflow expected by photographers using a dedicated camera.

What the iPhone 18 Pro’s hardware enables
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, 2026, with availability scheduled for September 18. Its 48MP Fusion Main camera is the first camera in this release to use variable aperture, with six laser-cut blades. Apple says the system can adjust aperture automatically for depth of field and lighting, while the stock Camera app exposes four manual aperture settings.

That hardware limitation matters: Halide cannot add an aperture range the lens does not physically support. Its benefit is exposing the supported range continuously rather than restricting you to Apple’s four selectable positions.

Apple’s documented manual controls—aperture, shutter speed, white balance and histogram—work in Photo, Video, Cinematic, Slo-mo and Time-Lapse modes on iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple also integrates those controls with the Camera app and Camera Controls, whereas Halide presents a specialist interface built around deliberate photographic decisions.

When the finer aperture control matters
Depth of field
Choosing an intermediate f-stop can help you balance subject separation against the amount of a scene that remains sharp. The practical value depends on the lens’s physical range and the subject distance; Halide provides finer selection, not a different lens.
Exposure decisions
Aperture Priority lets you hold the look you want while the app handles the remaining exposure variables. Manual mode is better when motion blur, ISO or all three exposure settings must remain predictable from frame to frame.

Intentional rendering
Process Zero and the two Looks are aimed at a less computational, more intentionally styled result. They are creative options, not proof of objectively higher image quality. No independent, reproducible head-to-head test establishes that Halide 3.2 produces better images than Apple’s Camera app.
What “better” does—and does not—mean here
Halide 3.2 is better for photographers who want continuous aperture choice, direct ISO access and a dedicated shooting workflow. It is not automatically better for every iPhone 18 Pro owner: Apple already covers the core manual controls and adds an exposure histogram inside the built-in app.

MacRumors reports Apple’s aperture change as delivering “around 50 percent better low-light performance.” That is a manufacturer-related figure reported by MacRumors, not an independent test of Halide, so it should not be treated as a measured advantage for the third-party app.
Price and requirements
Halide 3.2’s adjustable-aperture features require an iPhone 18 Pro with the variable-aperture main camera. MacRumors lists Halide Mark III at $69.99 for a one-time purchase or $19.99 annually; App Store pricing can vary by region and may change, so check the live listing before buying.
If you use an older iPhone without the required variable-aperture hardware, the update cannot provide this particular control. The iPhone 18 Pro itself was scheduled to reach customers on September 18, 2026.
