Walmart’s October sale landed ahead of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, which Amazon says runs October 6–7, 2026. The two events differ in access, naming and stock rules, so the lowest sticker price isn’t always the better deal. This guide explains what is confirmed about each event and how to compare Apple, gaming laptop and patio offers before you pay. Treat the Walmart column as history. Walmart’s 2025 terms are a useful guide to how it usually runs these sales, but they aren’t 2026 rules. Check Walmart’s current deals page for this year’s start time, membership perks and exclusions.
Amazon’s announcement positioned the event around fall preparation. Carmen Nestares, vice president of North America Marketing and Prime Tech at Amazon, said: “Once fall arrives, there’s so much to get ready for—the hosting, the decorating, the holiday gifting—and Prime Big Deal Days makes it easy to check it all off while saving.”

Why a “top 21” list shouldn’t be trusted blindly
Roundups of this kind, including Tom’s Guide’s October 2026 Walmart piece covering Apple, gaming laptops and patio décor, are snapshots. Listed prices can change or sell out within hours. Third-party sellers can also appear in the same listing. Use any roundup to find candidates, then confirm each one on the retailer’s product page.
Take the one price that the Tom’s Guide article highlights: AirPods 4 at $79, described as $50 off. That is the article’s claim and not a guarantee of today’s price. Before you act on it, check that the listing is the exact AirPods 4 model you want, that Walmart is the seller, and that $79 appears at checkout.

How to compare a Walmart deal with an Amazon deal
- Match the exact product. Compare model number, generation, size and configuration, not just the product name.
- Check the seller. Both retailers host marketplace sellers. A deal sold and shipped by the retailer usually has simpler returns and warranty handling than a third-party offer.
- Price it at checkout. Include tax, shipping, and any membership fee needed to unlock the price.
- Confirm access. Amazon’s event deals require Prime. For Walmart, check whether a deal or early window needs Walmart+.
- Read the return terms. Look at the window, restocking fees, and whether large items can be returned at home or only by shipping.
- Check stock and delivery dates. Amazon says deals end when supplies run out, so a delivery estimate that slips past your deadline can erase the saving.
Apple deals: what to verify
AirPods
Confirm the generation. AirPods 4 is a different product from earlier models still sold at discount. Also check whether the listing is the version with active noise cancellation. Confirm that it’s new, not refurbished or renewed, and that Apple’s standard warranty applies through that seller.
Other Apple products
For iPads, Apple Watches and similar items, compare the exact model year, storage, screen or case size, and cellular versus Wi-Fi. A low price on an older model can be a worse buy than a smaller discount on the current one.

Gaming laptop deals: the spec check
“Gaming laptop” covers machines that differ widely in performance. Two listings at the same price can have very different hardware. Compare these before you compare prices:
- GPU: the exact graphics chip, since it decides gaming performance more than any other part.
- CPU: model and generation.
- RAM: 16 GB is a practical floor for current games, and check whether it can be upgraded.
- Storage: SSD capacity and type.
- Display: size, resolution and refresh rate.
- Seller and warranty: manufacturer warranty length and who handles claims.
- Final price: after tax, shipping and any bundle requirements.
Walmart’s 2025 event featured an ASUS gaming laptop among its electronics highlights, which shows that Walmart treats the category as a core part of its October sale. The specific 2026 models and prices must be checked live.

Patio and garden décor: what matters
- Material: powder-coated steel, aluminum, resin wicker and treated wood handle weather differently.
- Dimensions: measure your space and compare the listed size.
- Weather suitability: check whether the item is rated for outdoor use year-round or needs covering in winter.
- Assembly: note the time and tools required.
- Shipping and returns: bulky furniture can carry freight charges or costly return shipping.
Patio items are also late-season stock. Heavy discounts can mean limited sizes or colors, so confirm what’s actually available.
Which sale should you choose?
- You have Prime and want the broadest category range: Amazon’s event covers more than 35 categories, but ends October 7.
- You don’t have Prime: Walmart’s sale is the likelier route. Confirm this year’s access terms, since only the 2025 event is documented as open to all shoppers.
