On May 4, 2015, vXchnge announced it had acquired eight data centers from Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS). The company said the purchase expanded its edge-market presence and brought its reported North American footprint to 15 markets. The transaction is historical: the contemporaneous sources do not establish who owns or operates the facilities today.
Which markets were included in the acquisition?
Contemporaneous reports placed the eight facilities in these U.S. markets:
- Portland, Oregon
- Austin, Texas
- Minneapolis, Minnesota
- St. Paul, Minnesota
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Why did vXchnge say it wanted the facilities?
vXchnge described the locations as local deployment points for customers’ network-enabled applications and cloud services—workloads it said needed nearby, secure and resilient data-center capacity. In the announcement, CEO Keith Olsen said, “These marketplaces operate as deployment points for our customers’ network-enabled applications and cloud services that require safe, secure and resilient data centers.” (vXchnge via PR Newswire, May 4, 2015)

The deal paired vXchnge’s stated focus on carrier-neutral colocation and edge reach with facilities previously owned by Sungard AS, whose broader business included disaster recovery, cloud and managed services. What did vXchnge announce about staff and customers?
vXchnge said it planned to retain the data-center operations teams at each location and integrate the relevant Sungard AS operations, staff and customer base. It also described a transition period for affected customers. Olsen called retaining the local teams a key point of the transaction.
