No VPN can be responsibly recommended as a way to watch CW TV. The CW says it blocks VPN connections, including those used for legitimate purposes, and tells viewers to disable VPN or traffic-rerouting software. That means a “five best VPNs for CW” ranking would promise compatibility the available evidence does not establish.
If CW shows an access-denied message or playback error, disconnect the VPN and use a supported device and network. The CW’s guidance and supported viewing options are below.
Why a five-VPN ranking for CW would be misleading
The CW says its streaming rights are limited to the United States and that its system detects VPNs and other software that may reroute internet traffic. Its Support Center explains: “Since the exact purpose or use for any VPN cannot be determined by The CW, our system is required to block any use of them.” The policy applies even when someone has a legitimate reason to use a VPN. The CW’s VPN access guidance does not identify exceptions or a provider that it approves for streaming.
No source establishes that any particular VPN currently works with CW, and there is no basis for ranking five services by CW compatibility. General claims that a VPN works with other streaming platforms do not show that it will work with CW. If you need a VPN for privacy, choose one for that separate purpose rather than buying one to overcome CW’s playback restriction.

What to do when CW shows “access denied” or a playback error
When CW detects a VPN or rerouting service, its recommended fix is to disable that service. If the error remains, the network configuration may also need to be reset.
- Disconnect the VPN. Turn off the VPN app or service on the device you are using to stream.
- Check network settings. The CW suggests setting the device’s network settings to “Automatic” or restoring its default network settings.
- Try CW again. Reopen the app or stream after changing the network settings.
- Ask for device or network help if needed. If those steps do not resolve the problem, The CW recommends contacting the device manufacturer or your internet service provider.
These steps follow The CW’s troubleshooting instructions; they are not a method for using a VPN with CW.

How to watch CW on a supported device
The CW lists support for several television-connected devices, as well as phones and tablets. An Amazon Fire TV streaming device is one option for a television if you do not already have a supported platform; it is a way to run CW without a VPN, not a workaround for the VPN restriction.

What if you are outside the United States?
The CW says its streaming rights are available only in the United States. It advises viewers outside the U.S. to check local listings because another station in their country may carry the program. The presence of an app in an app store does not establish that CW streaming rights are available in that location, and changing your apparent location with a VPN is not a supported access method. The CW’s VPN and availability guidance covers both points.

No. In a July 28, 2026 announcement, The CW and ESPN said more than 800 annual hours of CW Sports live events would stream in the ESPN App for ESPN Unlimited subscribers starting August 4, 2026. That arrangement concerns CW Sports events, not access to CW entertainment programming through a VPN. The same announcement says CW entertainment remains on the free CW App and describes a CW-branded hub on The Roku Channel as planned for fall 2026; it does not establish that either option works through a VPN.
