To screen mirror to a VIZIO Smart TV, use AirPlay from a compatible Apple device or Chromecast built-in from a supported app or device—if your exact TV model supports that feature. For Chromecast app casting, put the phone or tablet and TV on the same Wi-Fi network, open a Chromecast-enabled app, and tap its Cast button. Menus and feature support vary by model, so check your TV’s manual before troubleshooting or buying an adapter.
Choose the right way to connect
AirPlay and Chromecast are not interchangeable: the best route depends on the TV’s supported features, the device you are using, and whether you want to show the entire screen or send content from one app. VIZIO’s platform manual describes screen sharing through AirPlay or Chromecast built-in on supported TVs. Check VIZIO support documentation for your specific model.
- Apple device and whole-screen mirroring: Use AirPlay if the TV supports it. VIZIO announced AirPlay 2 support for SmartCast TVs in January 2019, including use with iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but that historical announcement is not a complete compatibility list for current or older models. - Cast a particular app: Use Chromecast built-in when the app offers a Cast button and the TV supports Chromecast. This sends supported app content; it does not ensure that every app or operating system can mirror the whole device screen. See VIZIO’s Chromecast quick-start guidance.
Prepare the TV
- Confirm the model and feature. Find the TV’s model number and consult its manual or VIZIO support page. Do not assume every VIZIO Smart TV has identical AirPlay or Chromecast support or uses the same menu labels.
- Open the TV platform. On the platform described in VIZIO’s 2023 manual, press Home on the remote or choose SmartCast from Inputs. The names may differ on another model or software version. View the 2023 VIZIO platform manual.
Mirror an Apple device with AirPlay
- Verify that the exact VIZIO model supports AirPlay, using its manual or VIZIO’s model-specific support information.
- On the iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open the device’s AirPlay controls and select the VIZIO TV. Use the screen-mirroring control to show the device screen, or choose AirPlay playback within an app when you only want to send that app’s content.
- If the TV is not offered, confirm it is powered on and connected, then check the model’s current AirPlay setup instructions. The 2019 VIZIO announcement describes support and examples such as mirroring web pages and presentations, but it does not establish compatibility for every VIZIO TV today.
Cast from a Chromecast-enabled app
- Connect the phone or tablet and VIZIO TV to the same Wi-Fi network, as VIZIO specifies for app casting.
- Open an app that supports Chromecast and start the content you want to watch.
- Tap the app’s Cast button and choose the TV. If the button or TV does not appear, confirm that the app supports casting, both devices are on the same network, and the TV model supports Chromecast built-in.
App casting sends content from that app. It is not a promise that the phone’s entire screen—or content from every app—will appear on the TV.

If wireless mirroring is unavailable
- Check compatibility first: Confirm the model supports the method you are trying to use and follow its current manual. A missing AirPlay or Cast option may reflect model support rather than a fault.
- Check the connection: For Chromecast app casting, make sure the phone or tablet and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Check software and setup: Confirm the TV is connected and consult the model’s instructions for software and feature setup before trying another method.
- Consider HDMI only if supported: A wired connection may work when the source device can output video over its port, the correct adapter and cable are compatible, and the TV has an available HDMI input. Verify all three before purchase. VIZIO lists three HDMI inputs for model V4K65M-0804, but that specification does not establish that a particular phone, computer, or adapter will work. Check that model’s specifications.
