The Redmi Note 17 5G has the stronger display specifications on the cited regional pages, while the vivo Y31 5G lists IP68/IP69 protection on its India page. But there is no reliable price difference to report: Xiaomi India listed one Redmi configuration at ₹27,999, and a comparable current vivo price was not established. Both models’ specifications vary by market, so compare the exact regional version and storage tier before deciding.

Which phone has the better display?
On these cited regional specifications, the Redmi Note 17 5G has the more capable display on paper: its 6.99-inch AMOLED panel is listed at 2396 × 1080, compared with the vivo’s 6.68-inch LCD at 1608 × 720. Both list refresh rates up to 120Hz. A matching refresh-rate ceiling does not make the panels equivalent, and the specifications alone do not establish brightness, color accuracy, or viewing experience.

The vivo India page names the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, while Xiaomi’s Chile page names the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 and lists a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. The model name and published clock speed are specification details, not a benchmark: they do not show how the phones compare in real-world speed, gaming, heat, or battery efficiency.

Battery and charging: check the country version
For the cited India vivo version, the battery is rated at 6355mAh and described as 6500mAh typical, with 44W charging. Xiaomi’s Chile page lists a 7700mAh typical battery and 45W charging; Xiaomi’s India product page instead lists 8000mAh typical and 45W. These are market-specific published figures. Confirm the exact retail SKU in your country, and do not treat capacity figures as proof of a particular runtime.
Charging equipment can also depend on the region and package. vivo India describes its 44W charging with a standard vivo charger. Xiaomi Chile says the adapter is not included. Check the package contents for the exact model and seller before buying a separate charger.

Camera specifications are not camera-quality tests
The cited vivo India version lists a 50MP main rear camera, a 0.08MP secondary rear camera, and an 8MP front camera. Xiaomi Chile lists a 50MP rear camera and a 16MP front camera. These megapixel counts do not establish which phone takes better photos: sensor details, image processing, and independent camera comparisons are not available here.
Durability ratings and software support
vivo India lists IP68/IP69 for its Y31 5G, while Xiaomi Chile lists IP65 for the Redmi Note 17 5G. These ratings describe protection under specified test conditions; they do not make either phone damage-proof or establish that liquid damage is covered by warranty. vivo cautions that protection is not permanent, and Xiaomi notes its rating applies under specified laboratory conditions.

For software, the cited vivo India page specifies Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15. Xiaomi lists HyperOS 3; its India product page states four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. Attribute that update commitment to Xiaomi’s India page rather than assuming it applies identically to every market.
Price difference: what the available listings show
Xiaomi’s India store listed the Redmi Note 17 5G with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage at ₹27,999 when the listing was checked. The page also showed ₹39,999 as a marketing price; that figure is not evidence of a current competing transaction price or a discount available to every buyer. A comparable current vivo Y31 5G price was not established, so a numerical price gap cannot be calculated responsibly.

To compare offers, match the country, storage configuration, seller type, warranty, and date. A price for one Redmi configuration is not a fair comparison with a differently configured vivo, or with a listing from another market.
Regional versions can change the comparison
Do not assume every phone carrying either model name has the specifications in the table. vivo’s Europe page, for example, lists a Y31 5G with a 6.72-inch 2408 × 1080 LCD, 32MP front camera, and 50MP + 2MP rear cameras—materially different from the India version. Storage options differ as well; the Europe page includes 6GB/256GB and lists 6GB/512GB for Spain only. Xiaomi’s India and Chile pages also differ on the Redmi’s typical battery capacity.
