The vivo V40 is the better buy if you want a larger 6.78-inch screen and a lower price tier. The vivo X300 FE is the better choice if you want a compact phone with a newer listed chipset, a bigger rated battery, and an optional telephoto accessory, and you can pay a higher price. The two phones launched about two years apart in India, so the prices below are launch prices from different years. They are reference points, not a same-day comparison.
India price difference: launch prices and what they mean
The V40 was announced on August 7, 2024, and sales began on August 19, 2024. The X300 FE was announced on May 6, 2026, with availability from May 14, 2026. Both sets of prices come from vivo India’s own launch announcements.
| Model (India) | Storage variant | Launch price | Launch date |
|---|---|---|---|
| vivo V40 | 8GB+128GB | ₹34,999 | August 7, 2024 |
| vivo V40 | 8GB+256GB | ₹36,999 | August 7, 2024 |
| vivo V40 | 12GB+512GB | ₹41,999 | August 7, 2024 |
| vivo X300 FE | 12GB+256GB | ₹79,999 | May 6, 2026 |
| vivo X300 FE | 12GB+512GB | ₹89,999 | May 6, 2026 |
For the 512GB configurations, the launch-price gap is ₹48,000 (₹89,999 minus ₹41,999). That figure spans two launch years and two product tiers, so it describes the launch lineup, not what either phone costs to buy today.

vivo’s India e-store has also listed the 12GB+512GB X300 FE at ₹99,999, which is ₹10,000 above its launch price. The listing was observed in 2026, but the exact date of the observation is not recorded, and store prices change. Treat it as a single snapshot for that one variant, not as the current price of the phone.

How to check a current price difference
- Open the vivo India e-store and the retailer you plan to buy from on the same day.
- Compare the same storage variant. The V40 has no published launch variant matching the X300 FE’s 12GB+256GB, so 12GB+512GB is the most direct pairing.
- Record the list price, then note any bank offer, exchange deal, or coupon separately. Do not treat these as list price.
- Confirm stock status. The V40 is from a 2024 launch, and a listing for it may be discontinued or may not be sold through the same channels.

These are the figures vivo published for each India model. They describe the hardware on paper; they are not results from testing the phones side by side.
Screen size and handling
The screen size is the clearest difference between the two. The V40’s 6.78-inch panel is about half an inch larger than the X300 FE’s 6.31-inch panel, and the X300 FE’s listed dimensions are shorter and narrower. The X300 FE is slightly heavier, at 191g against 190g, despite its smaller footprint, so the extra weight is not the main handling difference. Choose the V40 if a large display for video, reading, and gaming is the priority. Choose the X300 FE if you want a phone that is easier to use one-handed.

Processor, software, and what the chips do not tell you
The X300 FE lists a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, while the V40 lists a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The naming alone shows that the X300 FE sits in a higher tier from a later generation. It does not tell you how much faster either phone is in daily use, how well each sustains performance under heavy load, or how their games run. No head-to-head benchmark is cited here, so avoid turning the chip names into a speed percentage.

Battery and charging
The X300 FE has the larger listed battery, at 6500mAh typical against 5500mAh typical for the V40. It also lists faster wired charging at up to 90W, compared with up to 80W for the V40. Both charging figures are manufacturer maximums under stated conditions. They do not promise that every charging session reaches those rates, and they do not measure battery endurance. Battery life depends on use, network, and settings, and no endurance test is available for either model in this comparison.
Cameras and the telephoto extender
vivo V40 camera
vivo positions the V40 around ZEISS co-engineered imaging and portrait photography. Its module-level specifications are not reproduced in full here, so use vivo India’s V40 parameter page for exact sensor and lens details before comparing it with the X300 FE. Megapixel counts alone are not a measure of image quality.

vivo sells a ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 as a separate accessory, announced at ₹15,999. It is compatible with the X300 FE only and is not part of the phone’s price. vivo describes it as 200mm equivalent and says it works across photo, video, and stage modes. These are manufacturer claims, and no independent accessory test is available for this comparison. If you buy the V40, the extender is not relevant to your decision.

Water and dust resistance
Both phones carry an IP68 dust and water rating. The X300 FE also lists IP69, which vivo states under its own laboratory conditions. IP69 covers high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. It does not mean the phone is durable against drops or everyday wear. Check the rating against the conditions you expect, not as a general promise.
Which phone fits your situation
Choose the vivo V40 if
- You want the larger 6.78-inch display and are comfortable with a bigger phone.
- You want the lowest published price in this pair, and the V40 is still available at a price you consider fair.
- You do not need the X300 FE’s telephoto module or its higher listed charging speed.
Choose the vivo X300 FE if
- You prefer the compact 6.31-inch form and want the newer listed chipset.
- You want the larger listed battery, 90W wired charging, and the IP69 rating.
- You plan to use the optional ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 and accept the additional cost.
- You can pay the higher price tier. The 12GB+512GB listing observed at ₹99,999 is ₹10,000 above launch, so compare current prices before deciding.
Limits of this comparison
The figures above come from vivo India’s launch material and product pages. They do not include independent camera tests, gaming tests, battery-life tests, or durability tests. The V40 is a 2024 launch and the X300 FE a 2026 launch, so the two are not sold under the same market conditions. Confirm current price, stock, and software support on the day you buy.
