For India-market models, the vivo V50 adds a larger rated battery, faster supported charging, newer listed software and an IP69 rating alongside IP68. Both phones list the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and closely matched rear-camera resolutions. In the vivo India Store listings observed on October 7, 2026, both 12 GB/512 GB versions were ₹48,999, so those listings show no price difference for that shared configuration—not a guaranteed current price.

What changes from the V40 to the V50?
Battery and charging
vivo lists the V50 with a 6,000 mAh typical-capacity battery and 90 W charging, compared with 5,500 mAh and 80 W for the V40. Those are rated capacity and supported charging figures, not a measured battery-life or charging-time comparison. Screen use, network conditions, settings, temperature, and the charging equipment can affect real results.
Software and chipset
Both India specification pages name the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The V40 is listed with Android 14 and Funtouch OS 14; the V50 with Android 15 and Funtouch OS 15. The version difference favors the V50 at the time represented by those listings, but the pages cited here do not specify comparable software-update support periods.

Camera hardware
Both phones list a 50 MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 50 MP autofocus ultra-wide rear camera. The V40 product page also markets ZEISS co-engineered imaging and portrait features. The V40’s listed front camera is 50 MP with ZEISS autofocus and a 92° field of view; the available V50 specifications list a 50 MP autofocus front camera but do not provide that same field-of-view figure. These specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos.
Water and dust protection
vivo lists IP68 for the V40 and IP68/IP69 for the V50. For the V40, vivo says the IP68 rating was based on controlled testing in static freshwater to a depth of 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes. Treat these classifications as test ratings, not a promise that a phone is waterproof in every situation or will retain its resistance indefinitely. vivo warns that splash, water and dust resistance is not permanent and may be reduced through daily use.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the V50 if its listed 6,000 mAh battery, 90 W charging, newer Android/Funtouch versions or additional IP69 rating are priorities—and its live price and available configuration work for you.
- Consider the V40 if you find a suitable configuration at a lower live price, or its listed front-camera field of view and ZEISS-branded camera features matter to you. The observed ₹39,999 price applies specifically to the 8 GB/128 GB V40 listing, not a matched V50 tier.
- Do not choose based on an assumed camera or battery-life winner. The listed camera resolutions and rated battery capacities do not substitute for comparable independent photo or endurance tests.
