In India, the vivo V40 is the stronger phone on paper and the more expensive one. At the same 8GB/128GB configuration, vivo’s India Store listed the V40 at ₹39,999 and the V40e at ₹33,999, a ₹6,000 gap. The V40 has the sharper display, a 50MP ultrawide camera and an explicit IP68 rating. Both phones share a 5500mAh typical-capacity battery and 80W charging. Those listings were captured in 2026 and both phones launched in 2024, so confirm the current price and stock before you buy.

Price difference
The gap depends on which storage tier you compare. vivo India Store product pages showed the following listed prices when they were captured in 2026. The selected unit pages were marked unavailable at that time, so treat these as listed amounts, not live checkout prices.

The ₹6,000 figure is our arithmetic from the two 8GB/128GB listings, not a price vivo published as a comparison. Store prices for both phones can change with offers, stock and the seller, so the gap you see at checkout may differ. Chipset and performance
The V40 uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and the V40e uses the Dimensity 7300. Both are listed as 4nm-class chips. A shared process node does not tell you which phone is faster, because performance depends on the core layout, memory, thermal design and software. vivo’s listings do not include benchmark results, and this comparison does not include measured speed or battery-life tests. If raw performance is the deciding factor, look for independent benchmark and thermal tests of the two phones.

Display: the clearest difference
The two screens are close in size but not in resolution. The V40’s 2800×1260 panel has a pixel density of about 453 ppi, while the V40e’s 2392×1080 panel is about 388 ppi. Both figures are calculated from the listed resolution and diagonal. Both screens are curved AMOLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate, so smoothness is similar. The V40 will look sharper in text and detail, especially if you use it for reading or video at full brightness.

Rear cameras
Both phones have a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation. The V40 uses a ZEISS-branded main camera and pairs it with a 50MP ZEISS ultrawide. The V40e’s ultrawide is 8MP, which has far fewer pixels and is the largest camera gap between the two phones. If you shoot a lot of landscapes or group photos with wide framing, the V40 is the stronger option on paper.

Front camera
Both phones list a 50MP autofocus selfie camera. The V40e also lists a wide-angle front lens, which is useful for group selfies. The V40 listing does not mention one.
Battery and charging
The two phones are identical on this front. Both list a 5500mAh typical battery capacity and 80W charging. The word “typical” matters: it is the rated figure vivo publishes, not a guarantee of battery life, which depends on use. Because the battery and charging specifications match, they should not be a deciding factor.

Water and dust protection
The V40 overview claims IP68 dust and water resistance, and it includes a fresh-water condition. The V40e material that was checked does not state an equivalent rating. If you plan to use the phone near water, check the V40e product page on vivo’s site before you buy, because the absence of a stated rating is not proof that the phone lacks one.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the V40 if you want the sharper 2800×1260 display, the 50MP ZEISS ultrawide, the IP68 claim, or the 12GB/512GB option, and you can spend about ₹6,000 more at the 8GB/128GB level.
- Choose the V40e if the lower listed price matters most and you still want a 120Hz curved AMOLED screen, a 5500mAh battery, 80W charging and a 50MP OIS main camera. Accept an 8MP ultrawide and a lower-resolution display.
- Check before you buy: current price and stock on vivo India Store or another seller, whether vivo still sells these 2024 models, and any water-resistance requirement you have.
Both phones were announced in 2024 and are now older models. Listings for the specific units we checked were unavailable, so confirm the model is still on sale before comparing prices.
