Which phone costs less, and is the price comparison fair?
On October 4, 2026, the official India stores displayed ₹26,999 for the vivo T5 Lite 6GB+256GB and ₹23,999 for the Redmi 17 5G 6GB+128GB. The Redmi listing is ₹3,000 lower, but offers half the listed storage. These figures therefore do not show a like-for-like price difference; vivo’s retrieved store listing did not show the price for its 6GB+128GB variant.
The ₹42,499 vivo MRP and ₹39,999 crossed-out Xiaomi reference price are displayed reference prices, not the observed selling prices. For an exact 6GB+128GB comparison, check the vivo checkout price for that configuration against Xiaomi’s current listing. Prices and offers can change. Smartprix’s October 3, 2026 comparison listed vivo from ₹20,499 and Redmi at ₹23,999, but configurations and seller terms may differ, so those figures should not be subtracted as a controlled comparison.

vivo’s July 22, 2026 launch announcement said the T5 Lite started at ₹19,999 and described an effective ₹18,499 price for 4GB+128GB under offer terms. Those are launch-period details, not a current checkout quote. vivo’s launch announcement gives that historical context.
Display: the Redmi is larger; vivo states a brightness figure
The Redmi’s 6.9-inch display is larger than vivo’s 6.74-inch panel. Both are LCDs in the 720p-class and support refresh rates up to 120Hz. vivo specifies 1600×720 resolution and 1200-nit HBM brightness. Xiaomi’s cited India product page lists HD+ resolution and AdaptiveSync up to 120Hz but does not state a comparable brightness figure.

That published HBM number is not a direct measurement of everyday brightness or a guarantee that the displays will look equally bright in all conditions. If you value more screen area for reading or video, the Redmi has the size advantage on paper; if the stated brightness spec matters, vivo provides the clearer figure.
Battery and charging: larger capacity on Xiaomi’s specification sheet
Xiaomi lists a 7900mAh typical battery, 45W wired charging and up to 22.5W reverse wired charging. vivo lists a 6500mAh typical battery and 44W charging. These are manufacturer specifications, not comparable endurance or charging-time test results; actual runtime and charging speed depend on use and conditions.

Xiaomi also says that “Even after 1000 full charge cycles, the battery can still maintain 80% or more of its original capacity.” This is Xiaomi’s claim, not independently verified longevity evidence. The listed capacity and wattage alone do not establish how long either phone lasts in daily use or how quickly it charges from empty.
Performance and software support
Processor names are not a speed test
The vivo uses a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G, while Xiaomi lists a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. No comparable benchmark results were collected, so the chip names alone do not establish which phone is faster for games, apps or multitasking. Gaming performance and sustained performance also remain untested here.

Software and update commitment
The vivo specification page lists Android 16 with Origin OS 6.0; Xiaomi lists HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Xiaomi states four years of OS updates and six years of security updates for the Redmi 17 5G on its India page. No comparable update promise was found on the retrieved vivo specifications, which is not proof that vivo will provide no updates.

vivo specifies a 50MP main rear camera, a 0.08MP auxiliary rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Xiaomi describes a 50MP AI dual-camera system; the cited product page does not state the front-camera resolution. Megapixel counts and camera labels do not establish low-light quality, color, focus consistency or video performance. No comparative camera samples or test results are available here.

Build protection, size and what comes in the box
vivo lists IP65 protection, compared with Xiaomi’s IP64 rating. vivo explicitly warns that protection can decline over time and liquid damage is not covered by warranty. Neither rating should be treated as a warranty against water damage.
vivo lists the T5 Lite at 209g; the cited Xiaomi India page does not state the Redmi’s weight, so a weight comparison cannot be made from these sources. Xiaomi lists Gorilla Glass 7i and a dynamic RGB light feature. Those additions may matter to individual buyers, but they do not by themselves establish durability or practical benefit.
The vivo India store listing says a charger, case and applied screen film are included. Xiaomi’s product page says a charger is in the box. Check the exact retail package for the region and SKU you plan to buy, since package contents can vary.
vivo also specifies dual nano-SIM support and expandable storage up to 2TB. That expansion figure is a stated maximum; check card compatibility and the exact model variant before relying on it.

- Consider the vivo T5 Lite 44W 5G if IP65, the stated 1200-nit HBM figure, its listed 209g weight, expandable storage or the listed case and screen film are more useful to you. Confirm the price of the specific RAM/storage version, particularly 6GB+128GB, before comparing it with Xiaomi.
- Do not decide on chip names or camera megapixels alone. Comparable benchmark, battery-life, charging-time and camera-quality evidence is not established by these specifications.
