The vivo T4 5G is the stronger on-paper pick for battery capacity, charging speed, refresh rate and front-camera resolution. Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G stands out for its stated six-generation Android upgrade and six-year security-update commitment, Super AMOLED display and microSD expansion. Price is harder to compare: the available vivo store figure is for a 12GB/256GB model, while Samsung’s published figures are launch prices for lower-memory configurations.

Specifications are manufacturer-published figures, not matched test results. Chip names and manufacturing-process claims alone do not establish which phone is faster or more efficient. The same caution applies to camera resolution and lens count: they describe hardware, not comparative photo quality.

Which phone has the better display?
The vivo T4 5G lists a slightly larger 6.77-inch panel and a refresh rate up to 120Hz, versus the Galaxy A17 5G’s 6.7-inch display and 90Hz. A higher refresh rate can make supported scrolling and animations appear smoother, but the listed specifications do not establish overall screen quality.

Samsung calls its panel Super AMOLED; vivo describes the T4 panel as AMOLED. vivo also claims up to 5000 nits local peak brightness, explicitly qualifying that figure as a local peak/lab claim. It should not be treated as a directly comparable everyday brightness result without the same measurement method and conditions for both phones.
Battery capacity and charging: vivo leads on paper
vivo lists the T4 5G battery at 7300mAh typical and 7170mAh rated, with charging up to 90W. Samsung lists a 5000mAh battery and 25W charging for the Galaxy A17 5G. Those figures make the T4 the stronger specification-sheet choice if battery capacity or maximum wired charging rate is your priority.
Capacity does not equal measured battery life, and maximum charging power does not guarantee a particular charging time. vivo notes that charging power varies with conditions. No controlled, side-by-side endurance or charge-time result is established here, so choose based on the published hardware rather than a promised number of hours.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCameras: different hardware priorities
Both phones list a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization. Samsung additionally lists a 5MP ultra-wide and a macro camera; vivo’s specification lists a 2MP secondary camera. The A17 5G therefore offers a named ultra-wide option on its specification sheet, while the T4 5G lists a higher-resolution front camera: 32MP versus Samsung’s 13MP.
These component differences cannot determine which phone takes better photos or selfies. Megapixels, stabilization and the number of cameras do not replace comparable sample images taken in the same conditions.
Software support and storage expansion
Samsung’s clearest long-term advantage is its published support promise: six Android-generation upgrades and six years of security updates. Samsung’s product page lists the security-update period through 31 August 2031. vivo lists Android 15 and Funtouch OS 15 for the T4, but the reviewed vivo specification page does not state a comparable support-duration commitment. That absence is not evidence of a particular support period; it means a like-for-like duration cannot be established from those specifications.

Samsung also specifies microSD expansion up to 2TB. vivo’s specification page does not list expandable ROM, making the Samsung the documented option here if removable storage matters. Confirm the exact regional model and card support before purchase.
Durability: neither phone is waterproof
vivo lists an IP65 rating and warns that its splash/water resistance is tested under controlled conditions and may diminish with wear. Samsung lists IP54 and Gorilla Glass Victus on the front. These are different protection claims, not a basis for calling either phone waterproof; avoid deliberate immersion and follow each manufacturer’s care guidance.
Price difference in India: compare the same configuration
Samsung India announced the Galaxy A17 5G prices below on 3 September 2025. They are launch prices, not a statement of today’s retail offer.
| Phone and configuration | Price and context |
|---|---|
| Galaxy A17 5G, 6GB/128GB | ₹18,999 — Samsung India launch price announced 3 September 2025 |
| Galaxy A17 5G, 8GB/128GB | ₹20,499 — Samsung India launch price announced 3 September 2025 |
| Galaxy A17 5G, 8GB/256GB | ₹23,499 — Samsung India launch price announced 3 September 2025 |
| vivo T4 5G, 12GB/256GB | ₹29,999 — vivo India Store listing observed in 2026; this is a store snapshot for that variant |
The listed vivo store price is for 12GB/256GB, so it cannot establish the price difference against Samsung’s 8GB/256GB version. A 91mobiles comparison page accessed in 2026 displayed ₹24,999 for the vivo T4 (out of stock) and ₹22,420 for the Galaxy A17 5G at Amazon; those are comparison-page observations, not guaranteed current or official offers.
For a useful live comparison, check the same RAM and storage tier on each retailer and note the date, stock status and seller. Keep list price separate from a bank discount, cashback or other conditional offer; if an equivalent configuration is unavailable, say so rather than comparing unlike variants.

Choose the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G if
- Samsung’s stated six Android-generation upgrades and six years of security updates are important to your ownership plan.
- You want the Super AMOLED branding, a listed ultra-wide rear camera or microSD expansion.
- You prefer to decide among Samsung’s stated 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB configurations based on actual retailer pricing.
For performance, battery endurance and camera quality, specifications alone do not settle the comparison. If any of those is your deciding factor, look for independent tests that compare these exact models under the same conditions rather than relying on chip names, capacity or megapixel counts.
