Two 2026 surveys point to interest in different parts of the crypto economy: consumers in Asia Pacific expressed potential future interest in stablecoins for payments, while affluent investors in the United States and Europe reported existing digital-asset ownership and plans to increase exposure. Neither survey shows that stated intentions will become actual use or purchases, and their results are not directly comparable.
What the two surveys measured
| Study | Who and where | What it measured | Fieldwork |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa Consumer 360 | 14,250 consumers aged 18–65 in 14 Asia Pacific markets: Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Australia and New Zealand | Stablecoin awareness, understanding, past use and possible future payment use | June–July 2026 |
| CoinShares Affluent Investor Crypto Report | 2,230 affluent investors in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland. Eligibility required $500,000–$999,999 or at least $1 million in investable assets, excluding real estate, and an investment transaction in the prior 12 months. | Digital-asset ownership, portfolio exposure, investment plans, attitudes to regulation and demand for advice | May 11–June 5, 2026 |
Visa’s survey concerns consumers’ views of stablecoins as a payment method. CoinShares’ survey concerns investment holdings and plans among a specifically affluent population. The percentages therefore describe different people, places and behaviors—not one worldwide measure of crypto adoption.
What consumers in Asia Pacific said about stablecoins
Future interest is higher than reported recent use
In Visa’s survey, 46% said they were likely to use stablecoins within five years. By comparison, 16% said they had used them in the previous 12 months. The first figure is a statement of likelihood, not a commitment or a record of future transactions. Visa also reports that 49% believed stablecoins could become a common way to move money across borders within five years. The company’s announcement of its Consumer 360 findings also points to online purchases, travel spending and overseas shopping as possible use cases; it does not establish that stablecoin payments are available in every surveyed market.
Awareness does not mean understanding or trust
Two-thirds of respondents (66%) were aware of stablecoins, but only 6% demonstrated accurate understanding of how they work. Among respondents who were aware of stablecoins but had never used them, 38% cited fraud or scam concerns and 36% cited lack of understanding. Asked who they would trust to provide stablecoins, respondents most often named government- or central-bank-linked entities (27%), followed by banks or regulated financial institutions (26%). These answers point to a gap between familiarity and confidence, not proof that any particular provider would resolve it.

Visa commissioned the survey. Nischint Sanghavi, the company’s Head of Digital Currencies for Asia Pacific, said consumers want stablecoins to feel like part of payment systems they already trust. That is Visa’s executive describing a desired experience, rather than an independent conclusion established by the survey.
What affluent investors reported about digital assets
Ownership was common in all seven surveyed markets
CoinShares reported digital-asset ownership ranging from 54% of respondents in Sweden to around 70% in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland. The release does not give an exact ownership figure for every market in that summary. Among digital-asset investors, an average of 80% held bitcoin; 89% of bitcoin investors also held other digital assets.

Reported portfolio exposure and plans to add
CoinShares described allocations as clustering around 10% of portfolios. That is an approximate overall description, not a precise pooled percentage or a country-by-country figure: the release does not publish a standalone allocation number for each market.

Among current digital-asset investors, at least 85% in five of the seven markets said they planned to increase exposure in 2026. The reported figure was 91% in each of the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. These are plans reported during the May–June survey, not confirmed purchases made later in 2026.

Investors also reported knowledge gaps and interest in advice
CoinShares said long-term appreciation and diversification ranked ahead of speculation as investment motives in all seven markets; 6% identified primarily as short-term traders. The survey also found that 79% supported increased digital-asset market regulation, 69% would consider a wealth manager with crypto expertise, and 88% said they lacked the knowledge to invest with full confidence. Those responses suggest reported demand for guidance alongside interest in the assets; they do not assess any particular adviser or service.
CoinShares commissioned and funded the study, which was designed by Vardaxoglou Advisory in collaboration with the company. The release says the online-panel survey used age and gender quotas, split respondents evenly between the two investable-asset bands, and required a recent investment transaction. It cautions that online panels can be affected by sampling and self-selection.

How to interpret the apparent rise in crypto appetite
- Separate payment interest from investment behavior. Visa asked consumers about stablecoin awareness, past use and possible payment use; CoinShares asked affluent investors about digital-asset holdings and investment plans.
- Keep the populations and regions attached to the figures. Visa covered consumers in 14 Asia Pacific markets. CoinShares covered qualified affluent investors in the United States and six European markets.
- Distinguish what people did from what they said they might do. Visa’s 16% is reported past-year use, while its 46% is five-year stated likelihood. CoinShares’ ownership figures describe existing holdings; its 2026 increases are plans.
- Consider who commissioned each survey. Visa has a commercial interest in digital payments, and CoinShares is a digital-asset company that commissioned and funded its study. The results are useful snapshots of respondents’ answers, not independent evidence that market-wide adoption will follow.
Taken together, the surveys show that stablecoins have potential payment appeal among surveyed Asia Pacific consumers and that digital assets are already held by many surveyed affluent investors in the United States and Europe. They do not establish a common adoption trend across the two groups or show that interest will translate into broader use.
