As reported by MobileSyrup on March 4, 2026, Virgin Mobile and Koodo offered $35-per-month bring-your-own-phone plans with 20GB of data, while Fido made a similar change to its $35 basic plan as a limited-time offer. Koodo’s reported plan used 5G; Virgin’s used 4G. These are dated terms, not confirmation that the plans are available now.
What the March 4 report said
MobileSyrup’s March 4, 2026 report described a higher data allowance at the $35 monthly price point for Virgin Mobile and Koodo, and a similar adjustment to Fido’s basic plan. The report said Fido’s offer was limited-time; it did not establish that the Virgin or Koodo price would remain available indefinitely.
The offers were BYOP, or bring your own phone: the monthly plan price did not include a handset. The report did not establish province-by-province availability or activation eligibility. For the full dated account, see MobileSyrup’s report.

How the reported plans compared
| Carrier | Reported monthly price and data | Speed tier | Promotion status reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virgin Mobile | $35/month for 20GB | 4G | No limited-time qualification stated in the report |
| Koodo | $35/month for 20GB | 5G | No limited-time qualification stated in the report |
| Fido | $35/month basic plan, adjusted to a similar data offer | Not stated in the report | Fido’s website described the offer as limited-time |
The report did not supply further matching details for Fido’s speed tier, so the comparison should not be read as proof that all three offers had identical terms. It also mentioned $55/month plans with 100GB at Virgin and Koodo; Virgin’s was 4G and Koodo’s was 5G. Fido had not launched a matching $55/100GB plan at the time of the report.

Other plan changes and inclusions in the report
International calling
Virgin had added international calling to 27 countries on most plans, excluding Basic, according to the report. MobileSyrup said Fido had added a similar promotion on February 28, 2026. It reported that Koodo did not then have a similar add-on.
60GB and cross-border options
The article said Virgin had changed its 60GB plan to $40/month, matching Koodo and Fido. It also reported that an option with data, talk and text across Canada, the United States and Mexico cost nearly $10 more per month. These are the report’s March 4 comparisons, not verified current plan terms.

It described Freedom Mobile’s $35/10GB plan as including North American roaming and Roam Beyond in more than 120 destinations. The report also noted larger Canada-US-Mexico data buckets from Freedom and Public.

What to check before choosing
- Current total price: Confirm the monthly charge, taxes and any required plan or account conditions on the carrier’s live offer page.
- Promotion duration: Fido’s $35 adjustment was described as limited-time. Check whether the offer is still open and what happens when it ends.
- Data speed: The report distinguished Koodo’s 5G offer from Virgin’s 4G offer. Check the current plan’s network and speed terms rather than assuming the tiers are unchanged.
- Calling and roaming: Verify which countries are included, whether international calling applies to the plan you select, and the specific roaming destinations and usage limits.
- Availability and eligibility: Ask whether the offer applies in your province and to new activations, existing customers or both; the report did not settle these details.
- Phone compatibility: Because these were BYOP offers, you need a suitable phone you already own or acquire separately. Confirm it is unlocked and compatible with the carrier’s network before switching.
Which reported offer was the better fit?
Based only on the March 4 report, Koodo stood out among the $35/20GB options if 5G was the priority; Virgin offered the same reported allowance at 4G. Fido’s similar adjustment may have been attractive, but its limited-time status and unspecified speed tier make checking its exact current terms especially important. If data volume mattered more than matching the headline price, the report’s Public Mobile comparison listed twice the data at $35; if roaming mattered, Freedom’s reported inclusions were a different selling point. Your location, eligibility, phone and the live terms determine whether any of those comparisons still apply.
