Jayden Seales bowled Virat Kohli for a golden duck in India’s third ODI against West Indies in New Chandigarh on 3 October 2026. It was Kohli’s first reported first-ball ODI dismissal since 2019—not his first duck of any kind since then.
How Seales dismissed Kohli
India chose to bat at PCA International Cricket Stadium, Ground A, in New Chandigarh. After dismissing Shubman Gill, Seales beat Kohli with the first ball he faced. Hindustan Times reports that Kohli first left a wide delivery, then tried to flick the next ball across the line. The full delivery moved inward on an off-and-middle line and bowled him for zero from one ball. The Times of India reported its speed as 136.5 kph.
What the seven-year gap means
The seven-year framing refers specifically to Kohli’s previous reported first-ball dismissal in an ODI, against West Indies in Visakhapatnam in 2019. Kieron Pollard bowled him then. It does not mean Kohli had gone seven years without scoring zero: the Times of India says his last ducks were consecutive dismissals against Australia in October 2025.
Hindustan Times reported that the New Chandigarh dismissal was Kohli’s fourth golden duck in ODIs. Its account lists his earlier first-ball ODI dismissals as follows:

The count of four golden ducks is Hindustan Times’ reported figure; it was not independently verified against an official career-stat database.
India’s score was still changing
A Times of India live update recorded India at 166/4 after 29.4 overs at 16:30 IST, with Seales having taken three wickets. That is a time-specific score during the innings, not a final result. The available information does not establish how the match ended.
