Arsenal forward Viktor Gyökeres scored for Sweden but called the result “sour” after a 1–1 draw away to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 October 2026. A Metro report says the goal made him the first player to score in six consecutive UEFA Nations League matches; an additional goal was ruled out for handball.
What record did Gyökeres break?
According to the Metro article syndicated by Football-Addict, Gyökeres became the first player to score in six consecutive Nations League matches. The report says he had equalled the previous five-match mark associated with Manchester United player Benjamin Šeško and Aleksandar Mitrović before extending the run.
UEFA’s results listing confirms the Bosnia and Herzegovina–Sweden match and its 1–1 score, but does not independently document the historical scoring streak or comparison. The record claim and its attribution to the earlier players therefore remain claims reported by Metro, rather than facts established by that UEFA listing.
Why was he disappointed after scoring?
The report says Gyökeres had a second goal ruled out after a VAR handball decision. It presents his frustration as being about Sweden’s failure to win and keep a clean sheet, not about the record itself. Metro attributed these comments to him after the match: “It’s sour.” He also said, “It’s a good record and I can continue to beat it.”

On the team performance, the same article quoted him saying: “Of course, it’s hard for us not to win the game and keep a clean sheet.” He added: “But in terms of play, I think we are doing very well today and we should be happy with that. But it’s heavy and we should have won.” The material available here does not include a transcript or recording, so the quotations are attributed to the report.

Sweden drew 1–1 away to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 October 2026, a score and date listed by UEFA’s 2026/27 Nations League fixtures and results. UEFA’s Sweden match schedule lists Romania as the team’s next Nations League opponent, on 5 October 2026.
