Yes. ViewSonic’s 27-inch XG275D-4K offers two display modes: 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) at up to 160Hz, or 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) at up to 320Hz. That makes it a genuine dual-mode gaming monitor, rather than a standard 4K screen that merely accepts a lower-resolution signal.
How the XG275D-4K’s two modes work
The monitor switches between its 4K and Full HD modes, pairing a different resolution with each maximum refresh rate. At 4K, it reaches 160Hz; at 1080p, it reaches 320Hz. The higher refresh rate is intended for competitive games where smooth motion can matter more than fine detail. The 4K mode is better suited to games where visual detail is the priority.
Those are mode-specific maximums, not a single setting that combines 4K resolution with 320Hz. The 320Hz figure applies to 1920 × 1080.
What the monitor offers beyond its refresh rates
Panel and image features
- Panel: 27-inch IPS, with 3840 × 2160 as its native resolution.
- Response-time claim: 0.5ms MPRT. MPRT is a motion-picture response-time measure, not the same as a gray-to-gray pixel response figure.
- HDR and brightness: HDR10 support and 300 cd/m² typical brightness.
- Color: 94% DCI-P3 typical coverage.
Variable refresh and connections
ViewSonic lists AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility for variable refresh rate gaming. The monitor has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4 input, and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W power delivery. USB-C can carry video and supply power to a compatible connected device; the 65W rating does not mean every laptop will charge at its full required rate.
#1 Best Overall
- PREMIUM MONITOR: 27 Inch UHD (3840x2160p) IPS gaming monitor with thin bezels and a 24.5 Inch esports OSD setting
- SWITCHABLE REFRESH RATE: Instantly switch between an ultra-fast 320Hz refresh rate at Full HD or a stunning 160Hz at 4K Ultra HD with the press of a button
- ULTRA-SMOOTH GAMING: FreeSync Premium technology and 0.5ms response time enables fluid and tear-free gameplay
- ERGONOMIC STAND: Advanced ergonomics (tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment) and narrow footprint for a more comfortable gaming experience
- ULTIMATE GAMING HUB: The XG275D-4K supports laptops, PCs, Macs, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Steam Deck with HDMI, 65W USB C, and DisplayPort inputs
Stand and competitive framing
The stand adjusts for height, tilt, swivel, and pivot, and the monitor supports 75 × 75mm VESA mounting. An on-screen display (OSD) option can reduce the active viewing area to 24.5 inches, a smaller framing option for esports-style play.
Who benefits from dual mode?
- Players of visually rich or single-player games: The 4K-at-160Hz mode prioritizes detail while retaining a high refresh rate.
- Competitive players: The 1080p-at-320Hz mode prioritizes refresh rate, while the 24.5-inch view option offers a more compact game image.
- People who want both uses: The appeal is switching modes on one display instead of choosing between a 4K monitor and a high-refresh Full HD monitor. Whether that flexibility is worthwhile depends on how often you would use each mode.
Price and availability
ViewSonic announced an estimated U.S. street price of $499.99. HotHardware later reported a $599 direct price and an Amazon listing whose in-stock status was not confirmed in that report. These are different price snapshots, not a guarantee of the current price or availability. Check ViewSonic or the retailer for the live listing in your region.

What to compare before buying
Dual mode is only one part of a monitor decision. Compare the XG275D-4K with alternatives using the details that affect your setup:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Native resolution and maximum refresh rate at that resolution.
- Maximum refresh rate at any lower-resolution mode you would actually use.
- Panel type and color coverage.
- Variable refresh support, including compatibility with your graphics card.
- HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, or USB-C needs; check whether USB-C power delivery is sufficient for your laptop.
- Stand adjustments or VESA mounting compatibility.
- Current price and regional availability, rather than an older launch estimate.
The XG275D-4K’s defining tradeoff is straightforward: 4K detail at up to 160Hz, or Full HD speed at up to 320Hz. A buyer who wants one of those modes exclusively may find that a monitor with a single resolution and refresh-rate focus is a better fit; the dual-mode design matters most when both are useful.
