If your Fitbit is not vibrating, the cause is usually one of four things: the vibration strength is set low, a quiet mode is silencing alerts, phone notifications are not reaching the device, or the alarm is set up in a way that will not trigger a vibration. A genuine motor fault is the last possibility to rule out, and Google’s own guidance treats it that way too. Work through the sections below in order, because each one narrows the problem before you move on to hardware.
Start by identifying your exact model
Fitbit-branded trackers and watches now sit under the Google Health app and its Help Center, and the menus, alarm setup and motor tests differ from one device family to the next. Before following any instruction below, confirm your model name, which is usually printed on the device or shown in the app’s device details. Several steps in this guide depend on that name, and a setting that exists on a Versa will not necessarily appear on a Charge or Inspire.
Check the vibration strength on the device
On models that offer the control, the Fitbit’s own Settings app contains a Vibrations or Vibration option that adjusts how strongly the device buzzes. Google Health describes this setting as controlling vibration strength. Open Settings on the device and look for that entry. The exact route to it varies by model, so if you cannot find it on your device, check the Help Center page for your model rather than guessing at menu paths.

Turn off the modes that silence alerts
Two device-level modes stop a Fitbit from vibrating even when everything else is configured correctly. Check both before you assume a fault.
- Do Not Disturb. Google Health says this mode suppresses notifications, goal celebrations, heart-zone alerts and reminders to move.
- Sleep Mode. This mode suppresses notification vibration and wake-on-screen behavior. Some models support a scheduled Sleep Mode, so a device that stops buzzing at certain times of day may be following a schedule you set earlier.
Quiet-mode controls differ by model, so use your model’s Help Center page to find where each one lives on the device.
Google’s Help Center explains the purpose of vibration in plain terms. In its words: “Your Fitbit device vibrates to alert you at various times, including if you set an alarm, when you hit your step goal, or if you haven’t met your hourly activity goal.” If your device is silent at a time when one of those alerts should fire, a quiet mode or a disabled alert is the first place to look.

Fix phone notifications that never reach the Fitbit
Notifications from your phone depend on the phone as well as the tracker. Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm that the phone and the Fitbit are connected over Bluetooth.
- Confirm that the phone has granted notification permission to the Google Health app.
- Check whether a phone-side quiet mode is active. Do Not Disturb, a Focus mode or a driving mode can block notifications before they reach the tracker.
- Keep the phone within 30 feet of the device. Google’s support guidance gives this distance for receiving notifications. Treat it as the published guideline rather than a guaranteed range, since walls, interference and phone placement all affect real-world Bluetooth performance.
Android: enable Always Vibrate
On Android, Google Health documents an Always Vibrate option in the device’s Notifications settings within the Google Health app. Enabling it makes the tracker vibrate for phone notifications. This control is documented for Android only, so do not expect the same option on an iPhone.
iPhone users
The Always Vibrate setting described in Google’s Help Center is an Android option. If you use an iPhone and your Fitbit does not vibrate for phone notifications, confirm the Bluetooth connection, the app’s notification permission and your phone’s focus settings, then check the Help Center page for your specific model for any iPhone-specific notification options.

Make sure alarms are able to vibrate
An alarm can fail to vibrate for reasons unrelated to the vibration setting, so check the alarm setup separately.
Where the alarm is created
Google Health says the place you create an alarm depends on the model:
| Device family | Where to set the alarm |
|---|---|
| Charge 3 to Charge 6 | On the device |
| Inspire 3 | On the device |
| Luxe | On the device |
| Sense-series | On the device |
| Versa-series | On the device |
| Other devices | In the Google Health app |
If you set the alarm in the app on a device that expects it on the tracker itself, or the reverse, the alarm may not fire as you expect. Confirm the alarm appears on the device itself after you save it.

Separate alarm apps on some models
On Sense, Sense 2, Versa 2, Versa 3 and Versa 4, the Alarms app is separate from alarms created through a voice assistant. An alarm set by voice may not appear in the Alarms app, and the reverse is also true. If an alarm did not vibrate, check which app created it.
Low battery can silence an alarm
Google’s Help Center says alarms on the Versa, Versa Lite Edition and Versa 2 will not go off when the battery is below 8%. Charge the device before relying on an alarm on those models. This threshold is stated only for those three; do not assume it applies to other trackers.
Run the motor test for your model
If the settings are correct, the phone-side options are enabled and the alarm is set properly, a vibration motor fault becomes a possibility. Google Health provides a motor test, but the procedure depends on the device family. The table below summarizes the method the Help Center assigns to each group.

| Device family | Test named in the Help Center |
|---|---|
| Ace 2, Ace 3 | Charging-cable test |
| Charge-series | Charging-cable test |
| Flex 2 | Charging-cable test |
| Inspire-series | Charging-cable test |
| Luxe | Charging-cable test |
| Sense-series | Charging-cable test |
| Versa 3, Versa 4 | Charging-cable test |
| Blaze, Versa, Versa Lite Edition, Versa 2 | Timer stopwatch test |
| Alta-series | Charging-cable button procedure |
| Other models | Stopwatch test, as stated on that model’s page; the Help Center does not list every model by name |
The Ace series appears under both the charging-cable test and the charging-cable button procedure in the Help Center, so match your exact model name to the page you are reading before following either method.
Carry out the test
- Find your model in the table above and note the test it is assigned.
- For a charging-cable test, connect the device to its charging cable and follow the sequence on your model’s Help Center page. A compatible replacement charging cable can be used if you need one to run the test, but it is only a means of running the test and does not repair the motor.
- For a Timer stopwatch test, open the Timer on the device and follow the stated steps for your model.
- Watch and feel for the motor’s vibration during each step. If the test produces no vibration when the procedure says it should, record the model name and the test you ran.
When to contact Customer Support
If the prescribed test does not produce vibration, Google’s Help Center says to contact Customer Support. A failed test is a reason to get the device checked; it does not confirm that a particular replacement part will fix the problem, and it should not be treated as a diagnosis you can complete at home. Include your model name, the test you ran, and what you observed when you contact support.
Google’s help pages do not show a publication date, so treat the menu steps, distances and thresholds above as the current published guidance for each model, and check your model’s page if a step does not match what you see on the device.
