Verismo Networks launched the VuNow PoD in December 2008 as a set-top box for watching YouTube and other online video on a television without connecting a computer. The reported $99 price was for the standard-definition VN100SD; the high-definition VN1000HD was listed at $149. Both prices are historical launch-era figures, not current prices.
What the VuNow PoD was
The VuNow PoD was a physical internet-video device that connected a television to an internet connection. Verismo’s aim was to let people browse online content from the TV using a remote, rather than relying on a computer between the web and the screen. Engadget reported the official launch on December 23, 2008, while noting that the launch announcement did not specify all the online content the broader service would offer (Engadget, December 23, 2008).
Models and launch prices
Contemporary coverage identified two versions: the standard-definition VN100SD and the high-definition VN1000HD. HotHardware reported their launch prices as $99 and $149, respectively, on December 24, 2008 (HotHardware, December 24, 2008).

|---|---|---|
| VN100SD | Standard definition | $99 (reported in December 2008) |

The available model reporting establishes the SD-versus-HD distinction and launch prices, but does not establish that every connector or networking feature was shared between the two versions.

How YouTube worked on the device
Period reports described using the remote to browse, search, and select online content. HotHardware said users could access YouTube videos, channels, and playlists through an account, presenting YouTube as a central part of the TV experience. That is evidence of the device’s intended launch-era functionality, not proof that YouTube still works on surviving units.
At launch, Verismo CEO Prakash Bhalerao said, “The television is a terrific medium for watching and sharing videos with friends or family.” The remark framed the company’s rationale for bringing online video to a shared household screen (HotHardware, December 24, 2008).

Connectivity and limitations noted in a 2009 review
PC World’s May 2009 review of the Hi-Def PoD described Ethernet, optional Wi-Fi, composite and HDMI outputs, USB ports, and a $149 period price. Those details apply to the reviewed Hi-Def model and configuration; they should not automatically be attributed to the VN100SD. The reviewer also counted 88 streaming stations in the Live Internet TV menu, a snapshot of that menu in May 2009 rather than a current service count (PC World, May 2009).

The same review found practical shortcomings: some videos returned by searches would not play, and the interface was difficult to use, with very small text. It also reported that the optional Wi-Fi adapter supported WEP rather than WPA. These are review-era findings, not a verified assessment of every unit or configuration.

A later CinemaNow announcement
In July 2009, Verismo and Sonic Solutions announced a partnership to add Roxio CinemaNow movies and other programming to VuNow. Engadget also reported at the time that Verismo sold the PoD through its website and Amazon. The announcement and distribution report document the product’s history; they do not establish that CinemaNow or VuNow services remain available, or that a current Amazon listing exists (Engadget, July 21, 2009).

The launch price and historical features do not answer the questions that matter for a present-day purchase. Current inventory, asking prices, working condition, and compatibility with YouTube or other streaming services have not been established. A surviving device should therefore be treated as legacy hardware, not assumed to be a usable modern streaming box. Before buying, verify the exact model, included accessories, physical condition, available connections, and whether the services you want actually work on that unit.
