CD PROJEKT RED announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026. The studio says it is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The remaster grew out of work on the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion. In a studio blog post, author Ryan Dinsdale explained that development of the expansion, planned for 2027, led the team to upgrade elements of the base game experience. Read the studio’s development explanation.
Do you get the remaster free if you own The Witcher 3?
According to CD PROJEKT RED’s release announcement, eligible owners receive a free upgrade on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 owners qualify if they own The Witcher 3 on the original Nintendo Switch. The studio also lists the remaster for purchase through Battle.net and the Microsoft Store.

Eligibility depends on the platform and the version you already own, so confirm both before assuming your purchase carries over. The announcement does not establish a blanket free-upgrade entitlement across every store or platform combination.
What does the remaster include and change?
Both major expansions
The remaster includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. CD PROJEKT RED says they are included even for players who previously owned only the base game.
Core gameplay and presentation updates
The studio highlights updates to visuals and performance, combat, skill progression, animations, and the interface. In its PC review, GamesRadar+ said the revised progression made it easier to shape distinct builds. The reviewer also noted a closer combat camera, simpler menus, and quality-of-life changes to traversal and quests. Those are review impressions, not a promise that every player or platform will have the same experience; GamesRadar+ disclosed that it reviewed the PC version using a publisher-provided code. Platform-specific features
Some features are specific to particular hardware: the announcement calls out path tracing on PC, PS5 Pro support, and controls or features for Switch 2. These are not a shared checklist for every version, so choose based on the system you own and verify the feature relevant to your setup.
Mods and cross-platform support
CD PROJEKT RED also lists cross-platform mod support among the remaster’s updates. The studio’s announcement does not mean that every mod works on every platform; support and compatibility can vary.
What is the current patch status?
As of October 8, 2026, the official Witcher news listing showed Patch 5.01 live for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, following earlier 5.00b and 5.00c updates. Patch status can change, so consult the official news listing for the latest platform-specific notice.

In its Patch 5.01 notes, CD PROJEKT RED said it was working on a Switch 2 update to bring versions closer to parity, including the same global changes as other platforms. How to approach a GamesRadar+ RPG Club play-along
The title’s invitation is a reason to revisit the Continent with other players, but a schedule, joining link, and play-along format are not confirmed here. Use the GamesRadar+ RPG Club’s current page or announcement for those details rather than relying on an assumed start date or sign-up process.
Before you begin, check which platform you will use, whether your existing copy qualifies for the upgrade, and whether the version on that platform has the features you want. If you are joining a group, follow its stated start point and pace so your progress lines up with the club’s plan.
Why has the remaster drawn renewed attention?
GamesRadar+ reported that the game reached a new all-time Steam concurrent-player peak of 137,724 in 2026, attributing the figure to SteamDB. The same report compared it with 103,329 players in January 2020. These are time-specific counts of concurrent Steam players—not sales, total owners, or the number playing across all platforms—and live figures may differ.
