Venezuela exported an estimated 1.08 million barrels of oil per day in September 2026, almost 9% less than in August, according to Reuters reporting republished by EnergyNow. The decline came despite higher shipments to the United States: exports to India and Europe fell, with Europe seeing the steepest drop.

How much did exports fall?

Reuters reported September exports of 1.08 million barrels per day (bpd), almost 9% below the previous month. Investing.com reported August exports at 1.19 million bpd, the comparison figure. These are monthly export estimates, not a measure of how much oil Venezuela produced.

The reported volumes are based on tanker movements. The reports do not present a complete set of underlying tanker records or an independently audited final count, so the figures are best read as shipping-data estimates rather than government-verified totals.

Where did Venezuelan shipments go?

The destination figures show different movements across the main reported markets:

#1 Best Overall
Destination August 2026 September 2026 Change
United States 553,000 bpd 629,000 bpd Up 76,000 bpd
India 297,000 bpd 253,000 bpd Down 44,000 bpd
Europe About 260,000 bpd About 86,000 bpd Down about 174,000 bpd

Reuters, as republished by EnergyNow, reported the monthly destination volumes. The reported increase in US-bound shipments did not offset the larger declines to Europe and India.

What pressures were reported?

Reuters attributed pressure on the total to higher freight costs squeezing trading margins and trading houses seeking steeper discounts from state-run oil company PDVSA. Its account also noted tanker reroutings and accumulated shipping delays. The reporting does not quantify how much each factor contributed, so it does not establish a precise breakdown or show that any one factor alone caused the decline.

How did shipments vary by company or shipper?

The aggregate decline did not apply equally across the reported shipment categories. Chevron’s Venezuelan crude exports were nearly unchanged at 283,000 bpd in September, Reuters reported. Trading firms shipped about 637,000 bpd, up from 597,000 bpd in August. The figures describe separate shipment categories and do not, on their own, explain the destination changes.

What the September figures do—and do not—show

  • They show an estimated month-to-month decrease in oil exports, alongside an increase in shipments to the United States.
  • They do not measure Venezuelan oil production or provide a full, independently audited accounting of cargoes.
  • They do not establish that the September decline will continue in October or later months.
