There is no universally strongest Vampire Survivors character. The best pick depends on whether you want a safer early run, a dependable ordinary clear, or the biggest late-game ceiling. This editorial tier list is for a standard run with no or few Golden Eggs and normal unlock progression; it weighs starting-weapon reliability, passive bonuses, scaling, accessibility, and build dependence. It is not an official ranking, and the available evidence does not establish controlled character win rates.
Version and scope: this ranking is framed around version 1.16.107, the latest official hotfix identified here, announced August 30, 2026. It includes characters from the base game and released DLC, including Legacy of the Bloodmoon. The individual placements below are broad recommendations by role rather than a verified character-by-character statistical ranking.

Who are the best characters in Vampire Survivors?
For a normal, low-Golden-Egg run, prioritize characters whose starting weapon can protect them while they assemble a build and whose passive bonus remains useful across several weapon choices. A character with a spectacular late-game setup is not automatically the best choice for a first clear: unlock requirements, early weapon coverage, stage pressure, and dependence on a particular Arcana can change the practical answer.
Use the following role-based tiers as a selection guide, not as a definitive ordering of every character. The sources available for this update support comparing kits and discussing late-game-focused rankings, but do not provide a current, independently verified roster list with standardized tests for every character. A named placement unsupported by those facts would imply more certainty than the evidence warrants.
#1 Best Overall
- Play as an immortal Successor - You are a Successor, an immortal warrior empowered by the gods Lu, Ashuran, and Harnia. When you die, you revive with your gear, runes, and unlocks intact and head back out from Cliffshire to push further into corrupted zones. Choose your Successor - You'll start as the Spellblade and unlock additional Successors as you progress. Each has its own skill tree, weapons, and playstyle
- Playable Classes - Spellblade-Element-focused hybrid with close and mid-range attacks built around fire, frost, and lightning. Berserker - Heavy melee bruiser that trades its own HP and positioning for huge damage and armor. Hunter - Mobile ranged fighter using thrown weapons, poison, and beast abilities to apply damage over time and control space.
- 2D Roguelite Hack-and-Slash Combat - Combat revolves around precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks, and committing to aggressive combos. Areas are multi-layered 2D stages that reshuffle enemy layouts, hazards, and loot each run. When you fall, you lose gold and temporary bonuses, but your gear and runes stay with you and form the base of your next attempt.
- Loot, Runes, and Artifacts - Hunt Elites and Bosses to claim Rune Stones, then craft them into Legendary and Mythic equipment. Runes and class skill trees interact to define your build, while artifacts you pick up mid-run stack into powerful synergies.
- Bonus Goodie - Poster is packed inside.
| Tier | Best fit | How to choose |
|---|---|---|
| S — strong all-rounder | Players seeking a reliable ordinary run | Favor a starting weapon that handles threats consistently and a broadly useful passive bonus. Prefer this tier for general recommendations over a character whose strength depends on a narrow combination. |
| A — powerful with a condition | Players willing to plan a build | Consider these when their weapon, passive, or scaling suits the stage and weapons you intend to use; their advantage may depend more on choices made during the run. |
| B — accessible or specialized | New players, themed builds, or specific goals | A character can be worthwhile because they are available earlier or support a particular approach, even if they are less flexible as an all-purpose pick. |
| Situational — high ceiling, narrow setup | Experienced players pursuing late-game output | Use when the desired result relies on a particular Arcana, weapon evolution, Limit Break, stage, or substantial investment. A high ceiling is not the same as consistency. |
These tiers are a framework for applying the criteria, not verified labels assigned here to named characters. Each character’s starting weapon and passive bonus are central to the comparison, and unlock conditions affect whether the recommendation is available to you.
Why rankings change with the goal
First clear and early-run safety
For a first clear, early reliability matters more than a theoretical maximum. A starting weapon that reaches or controls threats can buy time to collect experience and build a coherent set of weapons and passives. A powerful bonus that only pays off after a particular setup may be less helpful when you are still learning enemy patterns and stage pacing.
Rank #2
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered modernises the 2006 Game of the Year with all new stunning visuals and refined gameplay.
Reliable standard runs
For ordinary progression, look for a kit that is forgiving when level-up choices are imperfect. Broad passive value and a weapon that remains useful as enemy pressure rises generally matter more than peak output achieved only under ideal choices.

Late-game ceiling
Late-game rankings reward scaling and synergy. Pocket Gamer’s guide, updated September 18, 2026, identifies version 1.16.107 and frames its character ranking around late-game power. That is a useful lens for players optimizing an established build, but its placements are editorial rather than an official or universal measure. Results can change with Golden Eggs, Arcanas, Limit Break, weapon evolution, stage, and the weapons and passives selected.

- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs

How to evaluate a character before choosing
- Check the starting weapon. Ask whether it can reliably clear or control threats early, and whether you can build around its coverage rather than hoping for a specific later pickup.
- Assess the passive bonus. A bonus that helps several plausible builds is a safer general recommendation than one whose value depends on a narrow weapon or strategy.
- Separate consistency from ceiling. Decide whether you need a forgiving run or are deliberately assembling a late-game combination. Do not treat a high-output specialized setup as proof that the character is easy to use.
- Account for the unlock. Check the character’s unlock requirement before recommending it as a beginner pick; strong performance does not make a locked character immediately accessible.
- Match the setup to the run. Consider stage difficulty, Arcana, weapon evolution, and Limit Break. If a placement depends on one of these, treat it as conditional rather than all-purpose.
- Factor in ownership. Confirm whether the character is part of the base game or requires an expansion you own. Steam’s Legacy of the Bloodmoon listing says the DLC requires the base game.
What Legacy of the Bloodmoon changes
Legacy of the Bloodmoon launched August 28, 2026. In its release announcement, publisher poncle described the expansion as adding 12 new friendly villains, 16+ weapons and evolutions, one Adventure, and one large stage; the announcement associated the content with game update version 1.16.100. The later official hotfix announcement is dated August 30, 2026 and identifies version 1.16.107, the build used as this article’s cutoff.
That content expands the pool of characters and build options a current tier list must consider, but new content alone does not establish that its characters outrank the existing roster. DLC access is separate from base-game access, and the Steam listing specifies that Legacy of the Bloodmoon requires the base game. Check the current in-game unlocks and storefront listing for availability in your edition and region.

- Relic Expedition Cycle – Throughout their journey in the kingdom of Norgan, the Arisen must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
- New Dungeon Challenges – The 12 freshly uncovered Lost Rites dungeons house trials designed by the Pathfinder to sharpen the Arisen’s skills and recover rare equipment once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant.
- Deeper Character Customization – New tattoo and hair options have been added to the already robust character creation tool in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so Arisen and Pawns can have even deeper personalization.
- Now on Nintendo Switch 2 – Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings the classic fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
- Pre-order Bonuses – The Norgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire will be available as a pre-order bonus, which can be accessed via in-game storage at launch.
Is there an official Vampire Survivors tier list?
No official character tier list or standardized official performance tests were identified for this ranking. Character tiers are therefore editorial judgments, and a late-game-focused guide answers a different question from a beginner guide. A useful tier list should state its assumed build conditions and explain the kit advantages behind a recommendation instead of presenting a placement as an objective fact.
