To get an Intricate Key in Valheim, find a Mould: Intricate Key in a Deep North Winding Tunnel, combine it with five Bloodgold at a level 4 Black Forge to make a cast, then process that cast in a Frost Foundry using Liquid Frost. The finished key opens Mörkhalla.
Follow the three-stage key process
The mould, cast, and finished key are separate items. The mould is a crafting ingredient; the cast is an intermediate item; only the finished Intricate Key opens a Mörkhalla gate.
- Find the mould: Search the Deep North Winding Tunnels, commonly found beneath large Abandoned Village buildings.
- Make the cast: At a level 4 Black Forge, combine one Mould: Intricate Key with five Bloodgold. This consumes the mould.
- Finish the key: Put the cast in a Frost Foundry and use Liquid Frost to produce the finished key.
- Unlock Mörkhalla: Take the finished key to the gates and use it there.
The current item guide describes a progression route requiring three finished keys. Because each mould is consumed when you make a cast, search for additional moulds if you plan to follow that route. PC Gamer’s Intricate Key guide

In the Deep North, look for large Abandoned Village buildings, especially the longhouse. The Winding Tunnels are below these buildings. Explore the tunnels and check rubble or scrap piles for the mould. Some guides also report moulds from certain tunnel enemies, but they do not establish reliable drop rates, so containers are the more straightforward search target rather than a guaranteed source.

PC Gamer’s guide and the Deep North guide describe this location and route. The Deep North guide says it is verified for Valheim 1.0 and notes that hotfixes can affect exact drops and mechanics.
Prepare the right materials and stations
For the cast
Bring one mould and five Bloodgold to a level 4 Black Forge. The mould is consumed in this recipe, so a single mould makes one cast.

For the finished key
The Frost Foundry processes the cast into the key, and you need Liquid Frost for this step. The Deep North guide lists the Frost Foundry build cost as 10 Frostcores, 15 Iron, and 20 Stone. It identifies the Frigid Kiln as the station that turns Ice into Liquid Frost.

Do not confuse the stations: the Deep North guide identifies the Blast Furnace as the source of Bloodgold, while the Frost Foundry finishes the cast. These station and material details come from guides rather than directly checked official documentation.

Avoid the common item mix-up
- The mould is not the key and cannot unlock a gate.
- The cast is not the finished key; it must be processed in the Frost Foundry with Liquid Frost.
- Only the completed Intricate Key is used on Mörkhalla gates.
