Frostcore is a Deep North resource in Valheim 1.0, not a reward from the Mountain Frost Caves. A current PC Gamer guide reports that picking up your first Frostcore unlocks the Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln recipes. The exact costs below come from that secondary guide, so check the recipes shown in your game before committing materials.
Where to find Frostcore
Frostcore belongs to Deep North progression. Iron Gate’s September 9, 2026 Valheim 1.0 announcement confirms that the Deep North is part of the full release, but does not provide a Frostcore map, spawn coordinates, or detailed collection route. The available information therefore establishes the biome association, not a precise location or guaranteed path through its winding terrain.
Explore the Deep North and watch for Frostcore as you progress there; do not search Mountain Frost Caves expecting to find it. If your existing world does not expose newer content, Iron Gate explains that worlds are procedurally generated and that updates adding fixed world content affect unexplored areas. Its official FAQ advises traveling into unexplored regions or starting a new world to encounter such additions.

The first Frostcore pickup is reported to unlock two processing-station recipes: the Frost Foundry and the Frigid Kiln. The following costs are reported by PC Gamer’s Valheim 1.0 Frostcore guide; Iron Gate’s 1.0 announcement confirms the release and Deep North context, but not these crafting details.
#1 Best Overall
- For 1 to 4 players
- Ages 13+
- About 45 minutes per player
- A cooperative board game
- Based on the hit video game
| Station | Reported construction cost | Use of extra material |
|---|---|---|
| Frost Foundry | 10 Frostcore, 15 iron, 20 stone | |
| Frigid Kiln | 10 Frostcore, 20 stone, 5 ice | Additional ice is reported as kiln fuel. |
Because the recipe details come from a secondary guide rather than Iron Gate’s announcement, treat them as reported costs rather than patch-proof specifications. Check the in-game recipe before spending scarce materials, and gather extra ice if you plan to operate the kiln.
Frostcore route versus Mountain Frost Caves
Frostcore and Frost Caves are easy to confuse by name, but they point to different parts of Valheim and different goals.

| Route | Where | What it is for | Documented materials and hazards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frostcore progression | Deep North | Unlocking the Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln recipes | Frostcore; exact spawn details are not established by the cited sources. |
| Frost Cave exploration | Mountains | Collecting cave loot, including materials associated with Fenris equipment | Fenris Hair, Fenris Claw, Red Jute, and Crystal Heart; listed inhabitants include Bats, Ulvs, Cultists, and Stone Golems. |
The community Valheim Gamecore Wiki’s Frost Cave reference documents those cave materials and inhabitants. It does not establish complete loot odds, and Frost Cave loot should not be treated as a Frostcore source. Iron Gate’s press page identifies Frost Caves as February 2022 content, while its FAQ places their development between December 2021 and February 2022; those dates are release history, not clues to Frostcore’s location.

How to plan your collection
- Head to the Deep North for Frostcore; the sources establish the biome association but not a mapped spawn location.
- Collect enough Frostcore for the station you want to build, using the reported 10-Frostcore cost for either station as a planning estimate.
- Bring the other reported construction materials: iron and stone for the Frost Foundry, or stone and ice for the Frigid Kiln.
- If building the kiln, collect more than its reported five-ice construction cost because additional ice is reported to serve as fuel.
- For players returning to an older world, explore previously unvisited areas or consider a new world if new fixed content is absent from explored regions.
