Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out for 15 off 9 balls in the India–Pakistan men’s cricket final at the 2026 Asian Games after attempting a reverse sweep against Saim Ayub. AajTak reported that non-striker Abhishek Sharma appeared displeased with the shot selection as Suryavanshi walked off; the available reports establish that visible reaction, not a broader consensus among fans.
How Suryavanshi was dismissed
AajTak reported that Suryavanshi had hit two sixes before trying a reverse sweep against Pakistan off-spinner Saim Ayub. The ball took an inside edge and went to wicketkeeper Usman Khan, who completed the catch after fumbling it. Dainik Gomantak also described a reverse-sweep attempt and reported that Suryavanshi was out for 15 off 9 balls, in the third over.
The two match-day reports agree on the score and the attempted shot. The delivery account—including the inside edge and fumbled catch—is from AajTak’s match report; the third-over detail appears in Dainik Gomantak’s report.

AajTak said Abhishek Sharma, at the non-striker’s end, appeared displeased with Suryavanshi’s shot choice and gestured toward him as he walked off. That is a reported on-field reaction, not proof that the shot was objectively wrong or that fans widely condemned it. The available match coverage does not document a representative set of fan responses or measure how widespread criticism was.

The headline phrase “Absolutely not needed” should not be read as a direct quote from Abhishek or another named speaker: the reporting available here does not attribute those words to anyone. No named person’s direct comment on the shot selection is established.
Ayub’s celebration drew a separate comment
AajTak reproduced a Sony Sports Network post about Ayub’s celebration: “HMM…THAT’S SOME CELEBRATION! 🤨 🍼 Saim Ayub knows how BIG BOSS BABY’s wicket was 🙆”. The post comments on the celebration and the importance of the wicket; it is not a criticism of Suryavanshi’s shot choice.
