A buyer of a used AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D says Valorant blocked them at launch because the processor was associated with a restriction tied to its former owner. That account has not been independently verified. Riot anti-cheat lead Phillip Koskinas has since said hardware bans last no more than four months, apply only to the game where cheating was detected, and do not automatically blacklist every other component in a PC.
What happened to the used-CPU buyer?
TweakTown reported that a German buyer said they acquired a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D on September 21, 2026, and encountered a Valorant restriction when launching the game. According to the buyer’s account, Riot support said the processor had been on Vanguard’s blacklist since August 12 because its former owner had cheated. Those dates and the explanation are the buyer’s reported account, not independently confirmed Riot records. TweakTown’s report recounts the claim.
The processor could still function normally as computer hardware; the reported problem concerned eligibility to play Valorant. A game restriction does not by itself mean that a CPU is physically defective or unusable elsewhere.

What Riot has said about hardware bans
Riot anti-cheat lead Phillip Koskinas publicly clarified the stated policy in a post on X, reproduced by TweakTown:
#1 Best Overall
- The world's fastest gaming desktop processor and first gaming processor with 3D stacking technology
- 8 Cores and 16 processing threads with AMD 3D V-Cache technology
- 4.5 GHz Max Boost, 100 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
- For the advanced Socket AM4 platform, can support PCIe 4.0 on X570 and B550 motherboards
- Cooler not included, high-performance cooler recommended
“Hardware bans last 4 months maximum, they apply only to the game cheats were detected in, and we don’t ban “everything else” when we match one component. Support will give you the time remaining on request. If it were up to me, we’d have soul bans that followed them into hell.”
The last sentence is a joke, not a policy statement. The operative clarification is that the stated maximum is four months, the restriction is limited to the game in which cheating was detected, and a match to one component does not automatically mean the rest of the PC is banned. TweakTown reproduces Koskinas’s statement; TechSpot also reports his clarification and says Riot has seen fewer than a dozen inherited-hardware-ban cases. TechSpot’s report does not give a denominator or measurement period for that count, so it should not be treated as a prevalence rate.

- AMD Wraith Prism Cooler with RGB LED included
Is the whole PC or every Riot game affected?
The buyer reportedly said the motherboard and storage drive were also flagged. Koskinas disputed the broader claim that Riot bans “everything else” when it matches a single component. The reporting does not establish which, if any, other parts in this buyer’s PC were restricted, so the component-level status remains unresolved.

The reports therefore do not support a conclusion that this buyer was locked out of every Riot title, or that the processor was permanently barred from Valorant.

Can a new owner get the restriction lifted?
The reports support contacting Riot support to ask how much time remains or whether the hardware restriction can be re-evaluated. They do not establish that an appeal will succeed. The buyer reportedly said support would not manually remove the restriction; TechSpot, meanwhile, reports that Riot can re-evaluate HWID bans through support channels. Those accounts indicate a route to ask for review, not a guarantee of removal.
If the reported August 12, 2026 start date and Riot’s four-month maximum both apply in this case, the latest possible end would be around mid-December 2026. That is only an estimate based on the buyer’s account, not a confirmed expiration date. Ask Riot support directly for the remaining time rather than relying on a calculated date.

What used-hardware buyers can do
The reports do not identify a public tool for checking whether a CPU or other component is associated with a Valorant restriction. TweakTown’s practical suggestion is to ask the seller about prior use; that is buyer advice, not an official Riot screening process.
- Ask the seller whether the component came from a system used to cheat in Valorant and whether they know of any game restrictions associated with it.
- Keep the listing, messages, receipt, and seller details in case you need to explain the purchase to Riot support or pursue a seller dispute.
- If Valorant reports a restriction, contact Riot support to request the remaining time and ask whether the restriction can be re-evaluated.
- Do not assume changing the processor or another part will restore access: the reporting does not establish that hardware swaps resolve a restriction.
The available reporting also offers no basis for using hardware-ID spoofing or other ban-evasion methods. It is not a verified remedy and could create additional account or security problems.
