Yes, Pi documents a Claude Pro/Max login—but using Claude through Pi does not mean the requests are covered by your ordinary Claude plan limits. Pi says third-party harness usage draws from extra usage and is billed per token. Before connecting an account, check how extra usage is charged and decide whether you trust the chosen integration with your credentials or local Claude Code installation.

Does Pi use your Claude plan limits or extra usage?

Pi’s provider documentation says its /login flow supports Claude Pro and Max authentication. It also states: “Third-party harness usage draws from extra usage and is billed per token, not against Claude plan limits.” In other words, having a paid Claude plan does not make Pi usage part of the plan’s ordinary usage allowance.

Pi says authentication tokens are stored in ~/.pi/agent/auth.json and refreshed when expired. That describes Pi’s implementation; it is not an Anthropic statement that every third-party integration is authorized. Check your account’s extra-usage settings and usage records, and make a small, controlled request before relying on a larger workflow.

What changed about Claude plan credits for the Agent SDK?

Anthropic’s Agent SDK help page, updated October 7, 2026, says the monthly Agent SDK credit announced in June is no longer available. The page describes a separate arrangement: Claude Max and Team users can claim monthly API credits into a Claude Console organization and use them with an API key from that organization for the Agent SDK, Claude API, and Claude Managed Agents.

This is not evidence that a Pi integration using Claude Pro/Max login automatically receives those credits. The credit route depends on claiming the credit into Console and using the corresponding API key. Anthropic also explains that Claude.ai paid plans and Console API usage are separate products; a Claude subscription does not by itself include Console API usage (Anthropic’s billing explanation).

Which way can Pi connect to Claude?

The options differ in what credentials or processes they use and where billing is routed. Package descriptions below are maintainer claims, not independent security audits or Anthropic endorsements.

Route What is documented What to verify
Pi’s built-in Claude Pro/Max login Pi describes subscription authentication and says third-party harness use is billed per token through extra usage, not ordinary plan limits. Whether extra usage is enabled, what spending controls are available, and how usage appears in your account.
Credential-reading extension The pi-claude-auth listing says it reads Claude Code credentials and seeds them into Pi’s auth file. Whether you trust the extension with account credentials, how it handles refresh, and what code and permissions it has.
Claude CLI bridge extension The pi-claude-code-provider listing says it invokes an installed claude executable in non-interactive print mode. Whether the local CLI and extension versions meet the listing’s compatibility requirements and suit your workflow.
Anthropic Console/API Console API billing is separate from Claude.ai subscriptions. Anthropic’s October 7, 2026 update describes Max and Team monthly API credits claimed into Console and used with an API key. Whether your plan qualifies, whether you claimed the credit, and whether the Pi setup actually uses that Console API key.

These routes are not interchangeable. For example, using a credential-reading extension does not establish that requests are billed through a claimed Console credit. Confirm the actual authentication path and check account usage and invoices after initial use.

What should you check before installing a Pi extension?

Pi’s package listings warn that packages can execute code and affect agent behavior. A package that can read Claude Code credentials may handle sensitive account tokens; one that launches a local CLI adds a different process and compatibility boundary.

  • Read the extension’s source, provenance, requested permissions, and update history. Do not treat a package listing or maintainer description as a security audit.
  • Understand which credentials it can access and where they are stored. Avoid giving an extension access to credentials you would not trust it to use.
  • Check the package listing for current version requirements and the relevant Anthropic setup instructions before installing; these details can change.
  • Start with a controlled request, then inspect account usage and billing before expanding the workflow.

Has Anthropic approved or banned Pi integrations?

The official materials cited here distinguish Claude consumer plans, Claude Code setup options, and Console/API billing, but they do not specifically decide whether every third-party Pi package is permitted. Anthropic’s August 28, 2025 consumer terms announcement says its updates apply to Free, Pro, and Max, including Claude Code from accounts associated with those plans. That scope does not establish blanket approval for third-party harnesses.

So neither a guarantee that a Pi extension is allowed nor a categorical claim that it is banned is supported by those sources. If the workflow is important, uses a work account, or could incur material charges, check the current terms and ask Anthropic or your organization administrator before relying on it.
