A USB DSD DAC is a digital-to-analog converter that connects over USB and can receive DSD audio for playback. A USB connection by itself does not mean a DAC supports DSD: the specific input, supported rate, computer or player, playback software, and transmission method must all be compatible.
What does DSD mean on a DAC?
DSD, or Direct Stream Digital, is a digital audio format that represents audio as one-bit pulse-density-modulated data. XMOS describes standard DSD as one-bit samples at 2.8224 MHz. A DSD-capable DAC is needed to receive and convert that data for playback; support for USB or PCM alone is not enough. XMOS USB Audio documentation
How can DSD travel over USB?
A computer or player can send DSD to a compatible DAC using Native DSD or DSD over PCM (DoP). These are transport methods, not different kinds of DAC conversion: in either case, the receiving DAC needs to support DSD and the selected method.

Native DSD
In XMOS’s implementation, Native DSD uses USB Audio Raw Data format in an alternate setting. It requires driver support; XMOS documents a Windows ASIO driver route for that implementation. That specific requirement should not be assumed to apply to every DAC, operating system, or player. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact device and software combination. DSD over PCM (DoP)
DoP packages DSD data and marker bytes inside PCM frames so a PCM-oriented USB audio path can carry it. The receiving DAC recognizes the markers and recovers the DSD payload; the audio is not thereby converted into PCM. XMOS describes the standard DSD data rate as equivalent to 16-bit PCM at 176.4 kHz, a bandwidth comparison rather than a change in the audio content. Its documented marker scheme alternates 0x05 and 0xFA values in the marker byte. XMOS USB Audio documentation
DoP must be transmitted bit-perfectly. Volume adjustment or other audio processing in the signal path can corrupt the stream, so use a playback mode that avoids altering it. XMOS USB Audio documentation

- 👍 Up to DSD256 and PCM384 ▶️ TOPPING D10s USB DAC is compatible with 16-32bit/44.1-384kHz and DSD64 - DSD256(support both Dop and Native) If you need a DSD configuration guide, please contact the seller HIFI COLLEGE.
- 👍 XMOS XU208 and Customized Driver ▶️ TOPPPING D10s DAC use XMOS XU208 for USB interface and use customized driver which from Thesycon for better compatibility with high resolution audio file especially DSD native. And use ESS ES9038Q2M to make THD+N as low as 0.0002%@1kHz
- 👍 Automatic Power On/Off ▶️ Although the USB port support power after PC has shutdown,D10s still will synchronously power on/off with PC
- 👍 Replaceable OP ▶️ It has OP amp socket,DIYer could change the OP amp to get different sound.Notice:D10's electrical parameters will change if use other OP
- 👍 Multiple Applications ▶️ ①Connect TOPPING D10s to your active speakers.D10s Provide not only DSD and higher-specification PCM compatibility but also a better sound quality than your computer's built-in sound card or a regular DAC;②You can connect D10s's line out to your amplifier/headphone amplifier's input to make D10s one part of your HIFI system;③You also can connect D10s's coaxial/optical output to your DAC, then D10s serve as a USB interface
What should you check before playing DSD files?
- Check the exact DAC input. Confirm that the USB port you plan to use supports DSD. Different inputs on one device can support different formats.
- Match the supported rates. Check the DSD rates supported by the DAC and by the playback software, and make sure they overlap.
- Confirm the transport method. Verify that both the host setup and DAC support Native DSD or DoP, whichever you intend to use.
- Check host and player requirements. For Native DSD, follow the DAC maker’s stated operating-system, driver, and playback-application requirements. For DoP, select an output mode that preserves bit-perfect transmission.
- For portable players, verify the cable or adapter. The necessary connection can vary by DAC. Astell&Kern’s guide says its included Type-C cable is for data transfer or charging, not necessarily USB audio output to an external DAC; check the guide for the player and connection in question. Astell&Kern user guide
Why does the USB port matter?
Format support can differ between inputs on the same product. Sony’s UDA-1 Help Guide lists DSD at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz for USB-B, while its front USB-A input is listed for 16-bit PCM up to 48 kHz. The example shows why a product’s general DSD specification is not enough: check the port you will actually use. Sony UDA-1 Help Guide
What do manufacturer examples show?
These examples illustrate different support configurations; they are not current buying recommendations. Manufacturer specifications may be model-specific, and the cited pages do not establish present-day availability.

| Sony UDA-1 | 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz over USB-B, according to Sony’s Help Guide. | The front USB-A input is listed for 16-bit PCM up to 48 kHz, not DSD. Sony UDA-1 Help Guide |

Does Native DSD or DoP sound better?
The cited technical documentation explains how the two methods carry DSD; it does not establish that either method inherently sounds better. For a working setup, compare support for the precise DAC input and DSD rate, the host operating system and driver, playback software and output mode, and whether the signal path remains bit-perfect. For a portable connection, also confirm cable or adapter compatibility.
Quick Recap

- 👍 Supports high-resolution audio ▶️ TOPPING E30 II uses two sub-flagship AK4493S chips of AKM's VELVET Sound technology. AK4493S is an upgraded version of the previous AK4493. Two AK4493S in parallel can achieve better performance and reduction ability than a single chip.
- 👍 Coaxial and Optical also has good performance ▶️ The optical and coaxial input of E30 II supports up to 24bit192kHz audio, which is suitable for digital turntables, disk players, set-top boxes, and game consoles, so that traditional equipment can also give a new sound. The Digital Processing module provides better compatibility than the E30.
- 👍 5V power supply, anytime and anywhere ▶️ E30 II uses DC5V for power supply, which can easily access almost everywhere. You can power it up by USB port of PC, mobile phone charger or even a power bank. The built-in protection circuit will protect the E30 II and prompt on the screen after connecting to the wrong power supply.
- 👍 Discrete LNRD ▶️ How to solve the noise problem of 5V power supply? The E30 II's answer is the Discrete LNRD circuit (low noise reference driver). The Discrete LNRD circuit filters out the noise of various 5V power input and provides stable power supply of ultra-low noise reference level for E30 II. With this technology, the noise floor of E30 II is lower than 1 .5uV.
- 👍 Pure DAC & DAC+Preamp application ▶️ E30 II is able to fix to maxmum output level so that it can be worked as a pure DAC. E30 II has built-in volume control function that can adjust the volume from -99dB to 0dB by using the remote control, so you are able to directly connect E30 II to power amplifier or active speakers, and control the volume of E30 II through remote control.
