The U.S. Department of Justice says Greg Lui, a California technology-company owner, was arrested after a federal indictment accused him of arranging shipments of export-controlled servers containing U.S.-made GPUs through Malaysia and Singapore to China. Prosecutors allege the shipments were worth more than $300 million. The DOJ release does not name Nvidia or identify the GPU models, so the title’s Nvidia attribution is not established by the source.
What prosecutors say Lui did
According to the DOJ, Greg Lui, 38, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, lives in San Gabriel, California, and owns Earthmade Computer Inc., a closely held technology company based in City of Industry, California. A federal indictment returned September 29, 2026, charges him with three counts.
The indictment alleges that Lui and co-conspirators used Earthmade to buy high-end computer servers containing GPUs and arrange their shipment through Malaysia and Singapore for onward delivery to buyers in China. Prosecutors say the exports required U.S. Commerce Department licenses that the participants did not obtain. The DOJ also says paperwork falsely represented permissible end users and destinations.

- Purchase in the United States: Earthmade allegedly ordered servers containing U.S.-manufactured GPUs.
- Ship through third countries: The servers were allegedly sent to Malaysia and Singapore rather than directly to their ultimate destination.
- Continue to China: Prosecutors say the goods were then re-exported to China without the required licenses, while shipping paperwork misrepresented the end user or destination.
The DOJ’s example concerns an alleged January 2024 order for 27 servers costing approximately $7,614,000. The servers were shipped from Los Angeles to Kuala Lumpur, and a co-conspirator later allegedly told a Malaysian official that the 27 servers had been transshipped to a China-based buyer.

What the dollar figures represent
The figures in the DOJ’s account describe different parts of the alleged activity; they should not be added together.
| Figure | What it refers to |
|---|---|
| More than $300 million | The value of servers involved in the smuggling allegations, as charged in the indictment. |
| More than $176 million | Payments Earthmade allegedly received from two Malaysia-based shipment companies between January and October 2024, according to the DOJ’s summary of the indictment. |
| Approximately $7,614,000 | The alleged purchase price for the January 2024 order of 27 servers. |
What he is charged with
The indictment alleges one count of conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act and Export Administration Regulations, one count of outbound smuggling, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. The DOJ says that, if Lui is convicted on all counts, the statutory maximums are 20 years for the export-control conspiracy count, 10 years for smuggling, and 20 years for money-laundering conspiracy. These are maximum possible terms described by prosecutors, not sentences imposed or predictions of the outcome.

Has Greg Lui been convicted?
No conviction is reported in the DOJ release. The charges are allegations in an indictment, not findings of guilt. The DOJ states that defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The release, dated October 1, 2026, said Lui was expected to make an initial appearance and be arraigned that afternoon. It does not confirm whether that hearing occurred, what plea was entered, or any later case status.
