To move your husband into your household in The Sims 4, open the household transfer (split and merge) screen, select him, choose the household you want him in, and confirm. The steps below come from community-written EA Forums answers rather than a current official manual, so button labels and placement can differ depending on your game version and installed packs.
Before you start
- Check the household size. Electronic Arts’ Help article on wills and heirloom objects states an eight-Sim household limit. When a child or pet would push a household past eight Sims, that addition goes to the My Households Bin. EA states this limit in the context of dependents added through a will, so treat it as a capacity check you should run before transferring, not as a guarantee of how every transfer behaves.
- Decide what you want. Moving him into your playable household is a different goal from setting him up as a roommate. The sections below explain the difference.
- Know what is not settled. The sources reviewed do not say whether he must be married to you before he can be transferred. Do not assume the marriage status is either a requirement or irrelevant.
Steps to move him into your household
- From the active game, open Manage Worlds. Select the household that currently contains your husband, then open Manage Household from that household’s options.
- Open the household transfer control. In the older community answer this is shown as a double-arrow icon. It takes you to the split and merge screen.
- In the split and merge screen, select your husband so he is the Sim being moved.
- Choose the destination. You can pick an existing household you already own, or create a new household if you want him separated first and placed later.
- If the destination requires funds, note that a second community walkthrough says to transfer funds before confirming. Check the household’s funds before you accept.
- Confirm and accept the move. Then reopen Manage Households and check that he appears in the destination household.
A second EA Forums walkthrough describes the same result through a different route: open Manage Households, choose Transfer Sim between households, and move the Sim to an existing or newly created household. If the menu labels in your version do not match the first route, try this one.

If the destination household is full
If the household you chose already has eight Sims, the move cannot simply add him as another member. EA’s documented fallback is the My Households Bin, where the Sim waits until you make room in the household or choose a different one. Remove or relocate a Sim from the destination household first, or pick another household, then repeat the transfer.

A roommate is not the same as a member of your playable household. A community discussion on EA Forums explains that a roommate stays in a separate household. If your goal is for him to share your household’s Sims, funds, and lots, use the transfer steps above rather than a roommate arrangement.
