These five Android apps tackle distinct jobs: finding temporary app deals, browsing with restrictive privacy defaults, hiding apps or files from casual view, recording expenses manually, and customizing a wallpaper. The best fit depends on what you want to do—and on whether you can accept the setup or compatibility trade-offs.

AppsFree: browse temporary app deals
AppsFree surfaces paid apps, games, wallpapers, and icon packs that are free for a limited time. Its Google Play listing describes notifications and filters for categories, keywords, minimum download and rating thresholds, ads, and in-app purchases. You can also block developers. These tools help narrow a stream of offers, but they cannot guarantee that a deal will be useful or available to you: the listing says prices vary by location and currency.
Check the Google Play listing’s data-safety disclosure before installing. The developer reports that the app may share app information and performance data, as well as device or other IDs, with third parties; it also reports encryption in transit and says data cannot be deleted. Monocles Browser is for people willing to adjust their browsing when a site depends on features they would rather keep disabled by default. F-Droid lists JavaScript and cookies as disabled by default, integrated EasyList ad blocking, Tor/Orbot proxy support, SSL certificate pinning, and the ability to import or export settings and bookmarks. Those features do not make a browser setting alone a guarantee of anonymity or safety.

Some sites need JavaScript or cookies to work. The listing advises adding trusted domains when needed, so expect to make exceptions rather than assume every page will function unchanged. The listed version, 1.9.3, requires Android 8.0 or newer. F-Droid recommends installing through its client; direct APK installation means missing update notifications. Amarok: hide, but do not rely on it for security
Amarok can obscure filenames and file signatures, and it can make apps invisible in the launcher. Its app-hiding modes include Root, Shizuku, and DSM. That can reduce casual visibility, but hiding is not encryption: the project warns that the processes can be easily reversed and says not to use Amarok to protect important files. Do not treat it as a safeguard for sensitive data against someone determined to find or recover it. Amarok documentation

Buckwheat: build a manual spending log
Buckwheat is designed for deliberate, manual expense tracking: you write down each spending item to get a clearer picture of your spending. That approach avoids relying on automatic account aggregation, but it takes time and works only if you keep entering purchases. It is a budgeting aid, not a substitute for checking your own records.
F-Droid lists version 4.8.0, Android 10 or newer, and a GNU GPL v3-only license. Google Play showed 50K+ downloads, a 4.6-star summary, and an update dated August 24, 2025. Google Play reviews include individual complaints about overdraft calculations and refunds; these are user reports, not verified defects. Chill Live Wallpaper: treat the feature list as unconfirmed
The September 23, 2026 roundup describes Chill Live Wallpaper as a minimalist landscape wallpaper that responds to local time and weather and uses a parallax effect. It also claims Android 7.1 or newer compatibility, a small download, no ads, and battery friendliness. Those details come from that roundup; current availability, compatibility, permissions, and the battery claim were not independently confirmed. Choose by the trade-off you can live with
- For short-lived offers, try AppsFree if browsing deals—and checking their local price and availability—sounds worthwhile.
- For more restrictive browsing defaults, consider Monocles Browser if you are prepared to enable trusted site features when needed.
- For casual hiding, Amarok may help with visibility, but never use it as file protection.
- For a spending habit built around reflection, Buckwheat suits manual entry if your device meets its Android requirement.
- For a changing landscape wallpaper, verify Chill Live Wallpaper’s current listing and permissions first.
