Undead Chronicles is a slow-burn zombie-survival horror game set in Istanbul in 1923. Its solo developer, Seyfettin Dincturk, says it is built around a civilian protagonist, deliberate gunplay and a bleak atmosphere—not the power fantasy of an action hero. The details below describe the developer’s stated aims, as reported in an October 2, 2026 interview; they are not based on a hands-on review.

What is Undead Chronicles about?

The game follows RJ Edwards, a shy British banker trying to escape Istanbul and get home as a zombie outbreak unfolds. Dincturk describes Edwards as an ordinary person rather than a soldier or conventional hero, making survival—not triumph—the premise.

Dincturk said the project grew from wanting to make the kind of game he wanted to play: “a horror walking sim with satisfying gunplay against slow zombies, and a protagonist who doesn’t joke once?” That combination points to a measured, atmospheric experience punctuated by combat, rather than a nonstop shooter.

Why is it set in 1923 Istanbul?

Dincturk places the story in Istanbul in 1923, a period he characterizes as the end of the Allied occupation and a time of political collapse, with the outbreak added to the upheaval. He has also cited visits to family in Istanbul as a student as part of his personal connection to the setting. This is the developer’s framing of the game’s historical backdrop, not a substitute for a history account.

The setting gives the premise a different texture from a familiar contemporary city: the danger is filtered through a specific place and moment, as well as through Edwards’s attempt to leave it.

How does the combat aim to keep players vulnerable?

Dincturk says the player can fight back, but should not feel powerful doing it. He describes shots as considered, reloads as intense and fumbled, and enemies as relentless. The intended tension comes from having weapons without turning the protagonist into an unstoppable fighter.

That distinction matters to the game’s survival-horror pitch: combat is meant to be an option, but one that preserves risk. These are design intentions described in the interview, not independently tested gameplay findings.

How does the story unfold?

The interview identifies radio broadcasts, notes and letters as environmental clues players can use to piece together what happened in Istanbul. Rather than relying only on direct exposition, the reported approach lets the setting carry fragments of the story.

Dincturk describes the tone as “creepy, depressive, and miserable,” which fits the game’s stated emphasis on atmosphere and vulnerability.

What has the developer said about the project?

Dincturk is identified in the interview as the solo developer, and says the game is fully self-funded. He also says Undead Chronicles was designed as a trilogy from day one, with the first game introducing the world and its protagonist.

Insider Gaming reported that Dincturk announced a 100,000-wishlist milestone earlier in 2026. That figure is an interview-reported developer claim; the article does not provide an independently verified measurement or a more precise milestone date.
