Ultra-thin phones can be worth it if a lighter, slimmer feel matters more to you than maximum battery endurance or a dedicated telephoto camera. But thinness alone does not determine comfort, weight, or capability: compare the actual models, including their dimensions, cameras, and battery estimates.
What does “ultra-thin” change in daily use?
A thinner body can feel easier to hold and carry, but the difference is not simply a matter of millimeters. Screen size, height, width, weight, materials, and the camera bump all affect how a phone feels in a hand or pocket. The available specifications describe dimensions, but they do not establish which phone feels most comfortable in real-world use.
Nor does a slim profile automatically make a phone lighter. Apple lists the 2025 iPhone Air at 5.64 mm thick and 165 g, while Samsung lists the Galaxy S25 Edge at 5.8 mm and 163 g. Samsung’s standard Galaxy S25 is thicker at 7.2 mm but weighs 162 g. These are different phones with different dimensions and designs, so thickness alone cannot explain the weight difference. Apple’s iPhone Air specifications and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 family comparison provide the published figures.
How much battery endurance might you give up?
Samsung’s own comparison shows a trade-off within its Galaxy S25 family. The figures below are Samsung’s battery capacities and maximum video-playback estimates, not independent, controlled results. “Up to” figures are estimates; actual playback time varies with settings and use.

The comparison suggests the Edge gives up some battery capacity and rated playback time relative to the standard S25 and S25+. It does not prove how long any one person’s phone will last, or establish a universal battery penalty for every thin phone. Samsung publishes the figures in its family comparison.
iPhone Air and its optional battery
Apple estimates up to 27 hours of video playback for iPhone Air, or up to 40 hours when used with Apple’s optional MagSafe Battery. That is Apple’s estimate, not a result directly comparable to Samsung’s figures. The accessory is a possible way to extend playback, but it is another item to carry and is not part of the phone itself.

What happens to camera flexibility?
Compare the lenses and zoom options, not just the headline megapixel counts. Samsung lists the Galaxy S25 Edge with a 200 MP wide camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, with up to 2x optical-quality zoom. The standard Galaxy S25 adds a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That dedicated lens gives the standard model a different zoom option; megapixel totals alone do not establish which phone takes better photos.

Apple lists the iPhone Air with a 48 MP Fusion rear camera system. That specification does not, by itself, establish photo quality or make its camera configuration directly equivalent to Samsung’s. Check the exact lenses and zoom range if distant subjects or portrait framing are important to you. Does a slim phone mean a smaller screen or fewer flagship features?
Not necessarily. Samsung lists a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and an IP68 rating for the Galaxy S25 Edge. Apple lists a 6.5-inch OLED ProMotion display and an IP68 rating for iPhone Air. These specifications show that slim models can retain large, high-refresh-rate displays and a stated water- and dust-resistance rating. - Choose for hand and pocket comfort: Compare height, width, thickness, weight, and camera protrusion together. A thinner measurement is only one part of the fit.
- Prioritize endurance: Compare battery capacity and manufacturer playback estimates within the same product family where possible. Treat estimates as guidance rather than a promise of your daily runtime.
- Need zoom reach? Check for a dedicated telephoto lens and its optical zoom range instead of relying on megapixels.
- Prefer a large display or water-resistance rating? Verify the exact model’s display and IP rating; slim design does not rule either out.
- Consider accessories honestly: An optional battery can extend a manufacturer’s playback estimate, but only if carrying and using an extra accessory suits you.
Manufacturers explain some of the engineering required to fit components into a slim body. Samsung says its Galaxy S25 Edge uses a reconfigured vapor chamber 10% larger than the one in the Galaxy S25+ to suit the Edge’s profile. That is Samsung’s description of its design, not independent evidence of thermal performance. Samsung Newsroom’s product announcement gives the explanation.
