The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is a good fit if you want a rugged, room-filling Bluetooth speaker for a patio, backyard gathering, or other outdoor use—and can live with its size and Bluetooth-only connectivity. It offers 360-degree sound, app-based EQ and pairing with compatible Ultimate Ears speakers. At 2 kg, it is less appealing for long walks, and it has no Wi-Fi, aux input, or built-in microphone.
Is the Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM worth buying?
Consider the EPICBOOM if outdoor durability, broad sound coverage and integration with compatible Ultimate Ears speakers matter more to you than easy portability or network streaming. Ultimate Ears lists an IP67 rating, up to 17 hours of playtime and a 55-meter wireless range on its U.S. product page. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not guarantees of results in every setting.
It is a less natural choice for long hikes, compact travel or a home setup that depends on Wi-Fi streaming. TechRadar describes the speaker as large for carrying long distances, and notes its Bluetooth-only operation. Its weight and dimensions are 2 kg and 16.2 × 11.9 × 24.1 cm, respectively, according to TechRadar’s specification table.

Sound and speaker controls
Ultimate Ears describes the EPICBOOM as a 360-degree speaker with adaptive EQ. The BOOM app offers customizable EQ, and the speaker supports PartyUp, Ultimate Ears’ multi-speaker feature. The current U.S. product page names BOOM 3, MEGABOOM 3, HYPERBOOM and EPICBOOM as compatible models; check the current app and device firmware for compatibility before planning a group setup.

Reviewers differ in how they assess its sound. TechRadar praises the speaker’s sound and EQ features. Tom’s Guide describes its sound as balanced, but also lists weak adaptive-EQ effectiveness and a lack of energy with some genres among its drawbacks. Those are the publications’ listening judgments, not a universal measurement of sound quality.
Battery, protection and outdoor use
Ultimate Ears claims up to 17 hours of playtime. TechRadar says its own battery test matched that quoted figure under the reviewer’s listening conditions; that single test does not establish how long it will last at other volumes or in other conditions.

The manufacturer says the IP67-rated speaker can be submerged for up to 30 minutes and survive drops from up to 1 meter. These are Ultimate Ears’ stated limits, not independent durability-test results. Tom’s Guide reports that its team tested floating in a bath because it did not have pool access; that is not evidence of extended pool testing.
Ultimate Ears lists a 55-meter wireless range and an Outdoor Boost mode. Actual Bluetooth range can vary with obstacles and the surrounding environment. The company’s 2023 launch announcement also described NFC pairing for NFC-compatible Android phones running Android 8.0 or later.

Connections and materials
TechRadar lists Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C, and says the EPICBOOM has no aux input or built-in microphone. It does not support Wi-Fi streaming, so music playback depends on a Bluetooth connection rather than a home network service.
Logitech’s 2023 launch announcement says the speaker uses fabric made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester and a minimum of 59% post-consumer recycled plastic. Those are company-reported material figures, not independently audited claims in the sources cited here.

How does the EPICBOOM compare with alternatives?
RTINGS’ comparisons help clarify the trade-offs within and beyond Ultimate Ears’ lineup. Reviewers’ assessments and quoted battery figures should not be treated as directly comparable lab results unless the outlet says they were measured under the same conditions.

| Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM | RTINGS says it delivers more low bass, higher volume and longer battery life, making it worth considering when loudness takes priority. | It is larger and, in RTINGS’ assessment, less suited to outdoor use than the EPICBOOM. |
| Ultimate Ears EVERBOOM | RTINGS describes it as smaller, lighter and cheaper, with longer continuous battery life and broadly similar sound and maximum volume. | RTINGS says the EPICBOOM has more controlled bass range and more balanced treble. |
| Marshall Kilburn III | RTINGS identifies greater portability, longer battery life and multi-device Bluetooth support as Marshall strengths. | RTINGS favors the EPICBOOM for ruggedness and integration with compatible Ultimate Ears speakers. |
| JBL Xtreme 3 | RTINGS says the JBL can pair with two devices at once. | RTINGS describes the EPICBOOM as having more balanced sound and better directivity. |
TechRadar’s review also compares the EPICBOOM with the Sonos Move 2 and Tribit Stormbox Blast. The review lists Wi-Fi support for the Sonos and quotes 24 hours of battery life for it and 30 hours for the Tribit. Those figures come from an older comparison table; confirm current specifications and local availability before relying on them.

Who should choose the EPICBOOM?
It makes sense for
- Outdoor gatherings where a rugged, large speaker and broad sound coverage are more important than a small carry size.
- Existing Ultimate Ears owners who want to use the BOOM app and pair compatible speakers through PartyUp.
- Listeners who prefer Bluetooth playback and do not need an aux input or built-in microphone.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a speaker that is comfortable to carry over long distances; TechRadar flags its size as a poor match for long hikes.
- You want Wi-Fi streaming or built-in microphone functions.
- You are choosing primarily for loudness, bass, weight or battery life; compare alternatives such as HYPERBOOM and EVERBOOM against your priorities and verify current specifications and prices in your market.
Verdict
The EPICBOOM is a compelling option for buyers who want a substantial, outdoor-oriented Bluetooth speaker and value Ultimate Ears’ app and multi-speaker features. Its 2 kg body, lack of Wi-Fi and missing aux input and microphone narrow its appeal. Choose it for rugged gathering-room sound rather than maximum portability or a networked home-speaker setup.
