Ufone was authorized to start 5G service in Pakistan on 20 March 2026, but that does not confirm a nationwide launch or validate a specific May launch date. The government’s notice describes a phased rollout, with access depending on local coverage, network readiness and a compatible, supported handset. Telenor’s access through Ufone’s spectrum is tied to its merger and regulatory approvals.
When will Ufone 5G launch in Pakistan?
Two March milestones are confirmed. On 10 March 2026, PTML, which operates as Ufone, announced that it had acquired spectrum in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) auction and would prepare for a phased rollout beginning in major urban centers. On 20 March, PTA authorized Ufone, Jazz and Zong to start 5G services. The authorization described a phased introduction, not immediate access for every customer or area. The title’s “in May” timing is not confirmed by these official sources: they do not identify which May, the source of that forecast or whether it referred to a limited activation. The confirmed event is March authorization to begin phased service, not a verified May launch date.
Is Telenor 5G available in Pakistan?
Telenor’s ability to use PTML/Ufone’s acquired spectrum was described as dependent on completion of the merger and regulatory approvals. The Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26 records conditional approval to transfer Telenor Pakistan’s licenses to PTML on 18 March 2026 and a subsequent no-objection certificate (NOC) on 2 April 2026. Those steps do not establish that every operational integration step is complete or that Telenor customers can access 5G. Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26, Chapter 15.

Which cities have Ufone 5G?
The Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26 identifies Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta as cities for planned commercial rollout during 2026, followed by gradual expansion. That is a national rollout plan, not a list of neighborhoods where Ufone 5G is currently active. The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication had also described an initial rollout in selected cities ahead of the auction. For actual availability, check Ufone’s current coverage information for your specific location. The PTA authorization report says operators are to publish coverage-area and compatible-handset lists. A city’s inclusion in the national plan does not guarantee service at a particular address.

Does my phone support 5G in Pakistan?
A phone needs 5G capability, but that alone does not ensure it can connect to Ufone’s network. The operator’s supported-model list, active coverage in your area and network readiness also matter. Check the exact phone model—not just the brand or product family—against the operator’s published compatibility information before relying on it for 5G. The Government of Pakistan’s Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26 reports that the 10 March auction awarded 480 MHz in total: 190 MHz to Jazz, 180 MHz to Ufone and 110 MHz to Zong. It records spectrum-license revenue of US$509.6 million, approximately Rs 142.6 billion, with payment due after one year.
