Tyka, a Washington, D.C.-based insurance coverage law firm, launched on October 1, 2026, after 12 partners left Wiley Rein. Tyka’s launch announcement describes a 21-lawyer boutique, including nine additional lawyers, focused on representing insurers in litigation and other high-value coverage matters.
What is Tyka, and when did it launch?
Tyka began operating in Washington, D.C., on October 1, 2026. Bloomberg Law and The Insurer also reported the launch and the 21-lawyer team size. The firm describes itself as a continuation of the group’s insurer-side work at Wiley Rein, now in a firm devoted to representing insurers. That description is Tyka’s characterization; the launch coverage does not independently establish continuity of particular client matters.
Who joined the new firm?
Tyka’s announcement identifies 12 founding partners and nine additional lawyers:

- Directors and officers (D&O) and financial institution liability
- Cyber, privacy, and technology
- Professional errors and omissions (E&O)

Tyka’s announcement describes disputes including securities class actions, derivative suits, government investigations, ransomware incidents, and professional liability claims. These examples indicate the range of matters the firm says it handles; they do not establish results or the details of particular engagements.

What are the firm’s claims about its predecessor group?
In its launch announcement, Tyka says the group earned 10 Law360 Insurance Group of the Year honors and held a Chambers Band 1 ranking for 22 years. Those are historical claims made by the firm, not independently verified here. Ben Eggert said, “Our clients have trusted us with their most significant matters for more than 20 years.” Kim Melvin described the launch as “not a pivot or a reinvention,” framing it as a continuation of the group’s prior insurer-side work.

The available launch information establishes the firm’s stated focus, its initial roster, and the practice areas it advertises. It does not provide a comparable basis for judging fees, case outcomes, capacity, or client-by-client continuity from Wiley Rein. The launch is therefore best understood as the formation of a specialist insurer-side boutique, rather than evidence of a particular change in representation for any individual client.
